    Cleaning a citizen bracelet

Hy everybody.I have a BL5345-59H Citizen watch. I recently discovered some dirt between the lugs of the bracelet. I wanted to start cleaning with a used toothbrush the excess dirt, but then i thought what if citizen uses some kind of oil for lubrification on the lugs.If i wash the lugs would they still be flexible? I wanted to ask you guys because i'm new to the field of watches .Thank you .

PS i attached a picture of the watch.

    Got the same watch.
No problem washing it with soap, water, and a tooth brush!

I don't see why that would be a problem. They made this watch 200m WR. You could even swim and dive with it!

There's probably no way to distroy a bracelet or watch just by cleaning it. I'd rather say it's counterproductive to leave the abrasive dirt where it is right now. And that's not only for watches. If your bicycle chain is full of dirt you better get it clean, too!

    Cheers,
    Sebastian

I'm not worried about WR.I'm worried about washing off anykind of lubricant from the bracelets lugs.

Of course, I know. I just wanted to say that the watch is build to resist some hostile conditions in floating or salty water, plus I never heard about someone greasing the lugs (might be wrong on this, though ).

I recommend to keep it as clean as possible and not to grease it (would look weird having oil stains on the cuffs of you shirt...).

    Cheers,
    Sebastian

I am not aware of any lubricant on any lugs/links. If you just wear the watch it would go away over time. Feel free to wash it as much as you want. No worries.

As any lubricant would serve as an attractant to dirt and other foreign materials, there is no such substance used on the bracelets. On bracelets that feature screwed together links, there may be light grade loctite to prevent the screws from backing out during normal wear. If your bracelet features this type of link connection, be sure to not use any degreasers, mineral spirits, etc or other compounds that may remove or weaken the loctite.

There is likely no lubrication between the links or lugs. For a good cleaning I would suggest that you remove the bracelet from the watch itself(do not immerse the entire watch. Being the crystal is mineral and under tension, if it has any defects, the sound pulses that the cleaner uses to clean things could shatter the crystal) and give it a good bath in an ultrsonic cleaner with mild detergent or jewelry cleaner. That will probably give the best results.

    Cheers!

If you want it really clean...........

Take the bracelet off and soak it in water with amonia added, the dirt and grime will fall off and come out of places you didn't know existed. Then rinse and brush with detergent.
