Headed to Japan. What's your JDM must-buy?

I'm headed to Japan and definitely shaved out some time to do feed my addiction. I had a buddy that went and picked up a vintage Seiko that looked like a fluted datejust (still don't know the model)

Any recs on watches (Seiko or not) that are only available in Japan?

    Cheers!

Nowadays you can pretty much get anything one way or another. There isn't really anything "only available in Japan". If you are after those stuff only "officially" available in Japan, go to the makers' Japanese websites and look for Limited Editions. Most LE's are quite region restricted. Some of them are even boutique only so good luck.

Certainly check out the watch selection at BIC Camera or Yodobashi. They'll have everything from Seiko 5 up to Grand Seiko. Then, just for kicks, visit the Seiko Premier Boutique in Ginza. They have everything from Grand Seiko to Galante and Credor. Very helpful staff that did not hesitate showing me some nice GS models. Maybe the fact that I had a 70s Bullhead on my wrist had something to do with that. In the end I just left with a very nice catalogue of GS Master Shop models and great impression of the watches I had tried. Wako in the famous corner of Ginza has a good watch department for higher end watches as well.

There are a lot of JDM watches, but as pointed out, you can anyway order them from Seiya or Higuchi. Or even Yahoo Auctions Japan if you're more adventurous. If buying anything, keep your passport with you and you'll be able to waive the consumption tax (8%). This means that buying that JDM watch in BIC Camera or Yodobashi will likely be a bit cheaper than getting it from Seiya or other vendors.

When it comes to used Seiko, I haven't found much yet. I plan still to visit Jackroad in Nakano (https://goo.gl/maps/o1CYxbWa3QE2) which is a bit of a train trip away, but hopefully worth it. Another one is Watch CTI in Ginza (https://goo.gl/maps/9dEvGrR9fqG2) as well as Lemon (https://goo.gl/maps/K4YnJRBckzo). I'll report back my findings. There are a lot of shops selling used Rolex's and Patek's. Best Watch in Shinjuku had a good selection of used Omegas as well (https://goo.gl/maps/Tf8p7jmkaPq). In general prices haven't been that low. Ameyoko Ocho in Ueno is a small street full of everything. Wander around the area near Okachimachi station to find several watch stores. There was a nice watch store under the tracks near this place (which itself wasn't anything that special): https://goo.gl/maps/TVu3mwvh1Su

Oh, and Omega has done many Japan-only special editions, in case you're after them it's better to make some research of the models ahead..

JDM stuff is fairy easy to get hold of on the web so I would go without a target in mind but if I saw something that caught my attention I would pounce on it.

Thanks for all the recs! I'll be sure to drop buy some of those places. The Bullhead is on my list too. That's exactly the type of watch that I'm searching for, an older model classic Seiko.

I should have rephrased it better. Watches that may be easier to find internationally in Japan. I'm interested in older model discontinued Seikos and at least want to see the 62mas in person before I buy.

Your best bet to find a 62mas is on Yahoo Japan auction site. I have yet to see one in a watch shop in Japan.
