    Help with 6309-729A

I purchased this watch a few weeks back. It is original and runs very well. I purchased at a very reasonable price, understanding that the bezel was not operating correctly. It turns, but with force needed for part of a 180 round, about half the way through. It doesn't click, understand this is probably the spring that is missing - could use a source for that if anyone can help. I have removed the bezel and put some vaseline on the bezel gasket. Would replacing the gasket and using silicone grease help this?

Thanks for any advice. I am new to these vintage divers, but am very much in love with the style.

    Regards - Tony

you should look past the silicone and gasket. I would be inclined to look at the ball bearing itself. If the spring is missing, then it shouldnt click at all.

it doesn't click. I figured the spring is missing, seems like the ball is there. I did not look with a loupe, will do that - seems logical. I will do that repost. Thanks for your reply.

If the ball is in there, then in all likelyhood the spring is as well, but either gunk or corrosion has frozen the spring and clickball in place. You mighthave to remove and replace both, as well as replace the bezel gasket and apply a small dab of silicone grease to it to ensure proper operation.

Re: Help with 6309-729A......I would agree with what has been said, additionally the

ball bearing could be partially worn more so on the top or side which gives periods of resistance and or hardness of turning, and then it free's up and turns partially.

I would agree with all the things the guys have said, especially with Gabe here, but I add that the click ball could be worn and may be out of round.

Yes, the bezel base ratcheting teeth could also be worn in an area or the teeth could be full of gunk, so clean the base with a brush lightly and add a small amount of lube.

Also examine the inner bezel gasket, if it's protruding out of the recess at all, when you try to re-install & pop it back on, a section of it (could be binding) in between the bezel and the crystal or retaining-ring giving you the resistance as well. So make sure it's seated in the grove or recess all the way around before you try putting the bezel back onto the case. (That's a common issue with a worn or prtruding gasket, you may have to try and try again till you get it right)

Just be careful also when removing and reinstalling the bezel to protect the S. Steel case and Mineral crystal from damage.

So do what everyone has suggested or mentioned and give us an update, and if you wish after trying and still are having issues, then PM me and I'll try to help further.

    Cheers & good luck,
    Jimmy
