Off Topic post I've recently caught Tuna fever. Help me make it worse . . .

I don't know why, but I have been craving for a Tuna for a while. I almost bought the Emperor Tuna over the MM300, but I'm glad I didn't: The Emperor's probably way too big of a watch for my unmanly 6.5" wrist.

I suppose I want one of Seiko's most unique looking dive watches -- the shroud has really grown on me.

And the sandwiches are not good enough nowadays.

I need one on the wrist, in the metal, or ceramic, or plastic, or whatever the shroud's made out of.

So what's your favorite Tuna? Is there a universally loved Tuna, sort of like the SKX007? I've heard good stuff about the SBBN007.
I've also heard that Tuna's wear high, but look smaller on the wrist than in photos. Are they mostly similar in size?

I don't mind quartz, but I do have a question about it. Will the batteries for these Tunas get phased out with time?

And is replacing the battery difficult?

    Thanks in advance.

    Here we go again...!

And I'm calling dibs on your Spork and your MM when you sell them to fund the Tuna.

All the tunas wear high....with the exception of the 300m....which is also the smallest diameter, so it may be the best match for a smaller wrist too. The other tunas are much bigger watches, in width and height, the 1000m quartz is in between the 300m and 1000m auto in size, the 1000m auto is the largest. Battery change is easiest on 300m as it has a conventional srewaback case. All the others have solid casebacks and the movemnt/battery is accessed through the front (ie removal of bezel/crystal retainer ring/crystal/dial & movement is necessary) and only a qualified watch smith should work on this. No worries on battery availability whatsoever in the future.

(Of course there are vintage 300m tunas that are pretty much the same size as current 300m tuna, 600m quartz tuna same size case as current 1000m quartz and vintage 600m autos that are pretty much the same size as current 1000m auto)

Seiko still makes the Quartz variant today so I doubt the battery will be phased out. Sony a few years ago started making these batteries mercury free aka. environmentally friendly.

Here I'll make the fever worse for you, this is mine and I wear it to swimming (no I'm not scanning that page off my old Mono Magazine lol) and this is made in 2004, buckle is still Made in Japan, still on its original battery (amazing):

Heres mine, the 600M Historical. Probably would be a tad big for your wrist, but the 300M would be just fine. Good luck in your hunt. Do yourself a favor give in and get one, that is the only cure for Tuna Fever!

    Shannon,

Your killing me! That is one great group of Tunas! Do you recommend the 24mm Isofrane or the 22mm? Not sure I have the heart to notch an isofrane. I have one in 24 that I use on my Breitling every now and then but have been looking for the perfect strap for the 600m. I hate how the shroud covers the lugs and makes the watch sit up higher on the wrist. Does the isofrane help keep the 1000M closer to the wrist than its original strap?

    Regards,

    Ren
