Any previous posts out there on the history of this cool watch? I have a smaller similar watch the H556 which I bought in the 80s at a PX in Germany. Not try to hijack your thread. Thanks.
To sum it up:
- The first digital-analog diver watch, released in 1982.
- Seiko made it tough, it was supposed to work in extreme conditions (G-Shock did not exist back then).
- A Japanese team wore it to climb the Everest in 1988. The watches survived.
- Arnold Schwarzenegger had one given (or recommended) by James Cameron and it can be seen on his wrist on many movies from the 80's, so many guys call it Arnie, a nickname I personnaly HATE even if I'm a big fan of the man himself.
- Roger Moore wore it in the James Bond movie "A View to Kill" (1985).
- There are 3 versions and 2 markets: H558-5000 (JDM), H558-5009(WORLD), H-558-500A(ORANGE/GOLD)
- It's fȕcking great.
And I'm back.....
Now my Arnie got a brother to play with.
A friend didn't want it anymore, and it needs a little TLC.
But hey... How could I say no?
It works fine. Just needs a battery, and I got a few coming.
Installed a brand new strap, another bezel is on the mail (this one is scraped and bent), a new shroud, new insert and new crystal will be next.
On Marcelos recommendation this is a new shroud from safari*inc on eBay. The satin finish and profile are spot on to an original shroud when new, the fit is precise. I really like the look.
