Orange Monster vs. Orient MAKO. Who wins?

Ok, I realize this is extremely subjective. I assume many here have both watches. If I were to start with one, which would you get, assuming price is nearly the same.

I bet this has even been discussed before. Any info is helpful.

For the Mako, the bracelet end links are hollow; I prefer solid ones.
It does not have a diver's extension which I believe a dive watch in its completeness should have. Futhermore, I believe that a raw metal bezel will stand up better against wear and tear than the coloured bezel on the Mako.

    Hence, I prefer the Monster.

Hollow end links makes the decision simple. I am a bracelt guy and hate hollow end links. Thanks!

This is the toughest vs I have seen I love both these watches. If you like to wear a bracelet then go the Monster - the Mako bracelet is Junk to be kept wrapped in plastic until you sell it. The Monster bracelet is gold.

But if you like straps I reckon the Mako is just made for a quality leather or composite strap. More so than the Monster.

Not knocking the Mako which is a great watch, and not just because it offers terrific bang-for-buck, but there's just no comparing it to a Monster. The best way to understand what I'm saying is to simply pick up and examine one of each. A few seconds is all you'll need to realize that the Monster is superior in just about every aspect (Okay, maybe not looks if you're the conservative type! )

Re: Orange Monster vs. Orient MAKO. Who wins?

I don't have an Orange Mako, but I have a Blue, and I had a Black.
I do have an Orange monster. Lot's of people complain about the
Mako bracelet, but I'm not one. Endlinks on mine never rattle, and
I don't notice them not being solid. I'll commit herasy and say, I'm not
that fond of the Monster bracelet. It's a nice bracelet, it's solid, and
it's heavy. As far as looks, it leaves me cold. That's just my opinion,
so don't try to sway me on that, it's in the eye of the beholder
I don't look at these 2 watches being in the same league. You can
just look at the Monster and tell it's stronger. It looks like a serious
dive watch, the Mako looks like a dressy part time diver.
My Monster and Mako are both equal in accuracy. The blue dial on the
Mako I have is Gorgeous, the Orange dial on the Monster is
If I had to give one up, as much as I would hate to, it would be the Mako.
IMO, these 2 really aren't comparable, even as competant as the Mako
    is.

Re: Orange Monster vs. Orient MAKO. Who wins?

If I were to start with one, as you say, I would start with the Mako. However, I like both of these watches equally as I own both and they are incredible value for your $. I bought the monster 1st, but the reason I would chose the Mako 1st if I had it to do over again is simple: it is a more versatile watch that can be dressed well above the monster in my opinion. If your going to dive it's simple: get the monster.

I have not owned the Mako long enough to experience the much talked about "hollow end-links issue," but as of right now I cannot tell the difference between it and my solid end-link bracelets. Honestly I think the Mako's bracelet is just fine the way it is, but I guess time will tell.

Nothing wrong with your question at all, but imo a more appropriate thread question would be "Monster or Mako:which would you choose and why?" Of course a lot will say just get both and for $225 you can can have both the OM and the blue/black Mako. Pretty incredible if you ask me.

No one wins here but you, the buyer. You cannot go wrong with either.

I should clarify that my Mako bracelet didn't rattle, and I don't believe that folded end links are weak or in anyway less functional. I didn't like that the metal compound is a different colour to the case, so it didn't quite match, but not different enough that it could be considered a styling feature.

And jbdan is right, whichever you choose you win. Both are smashing!
