Orient Mako or a Seiko SKX175

I am trying to decide between two watches. Which one do you guys suggest i get Orient Mako or a Seiko SKX175 (or SKX007K2). I have heard great things about both watches. Also what is the differance between a Seiko SKX175 and a SKX007K2. Currently i have a Skyhawk AT and am looking for something new. Thanks for the help!!!

The skx175 has a pepsi bezel...are you thinking of the skx173 vs.skx007...both have black bezels, same specs etc., but different indices on dial and the seconds hand is a little different. You know how there are Ford and Chevy guys, well w/ the Japanese watches I'm a Seiko guy....my vote's for Seiko, either 007 or 173.

I'd be willing to bet that, given some time, you'll end up with both.

    Not helping... I know....

I am a "neither brand" guy....I like both....and one should look to the features/looks/bang for buck that is most important to him/her imo.

I'd have to give the edge to the mako though here due to it's value for $. It's movement is a workhorse and it's looks border on an "omega-esque" diver/dress watch. You can get them BNIB for < $100. Not bad

There are features and points to distinguish both:

    Orient Mako and Seiko SKX175

    Movements:
--Orient Cal. 46943, Seiko Cal. 7S26
--Both movements are tried and true, but only the Orient movement is completely made in Japan (if that matters to you)
    --21,600 BPH
    --Bi-directional winding
    --21 Jewels
--Built for longevity/reliability over many years, popular in many styles

    Case & bracelet:
Seiko: assembled in China, ISO rated 200M, Jubilee bracelet, solid outer links, folded inner links, no solid end links
Orient: assembled in China, Brazil, Singapore, NOT rated ISO 200M, fold over clasp, dual push button w/safety latch, no divers extension

    Cystal:

    Orient: Hardened, flat, mineral crystal
    Seiko: Seiko's Hardlex crystal

    Both:

Screw down crowns, day/date calendar (white panels) (Orient has second srew down crown to control the day feature), large cases, and are pretty heavy. Very luminous, but the Orient is brighter than the Seiko

    Minor differences:

The Orient's dial is more classy, decorated, and has hand-applied, raised indices. The Seiko's dial is a matte blue, with flat indices

    What to do:

You win either way. I'd get both!

I am a big Seiko fan,so you know what my answer will be.I do like both watches, and i don't think their maybe one better than the other in the paticular style. If you can not afford to get both right away.I would flip a coin for now..

I just picked up a Orient Blue Mako a few days ago and I must say its amazing in person, and feels great on the wrist, also pictures just don't do the blue dial any justice. It looks great in person. I don't think you can go wrong with either one though.
    Current Collection:

    -Casio G-Shock MTG-900

    both are solid made watches.

    get both if you can..

again, it depends what attract you most..as both are cosmetically very beautiful classic watches..

one thing to note is that there is an additional date pusher at 2 on the mako..this is a deal breaker for some folks..

Thanks for the responses. It is a really tough decision. There is one other option....I could save up for about a year and get my dream watch (orient 300m).

If you are up to saving for the 300m Orient then that is the best option.. IMHO..
