Orient Star WZO281ER vs. Seiko SPL008
2 totally different watches, but they are both gold SS dress watches.
Here are the vitals:
Orient Star-36.7/14mm case, white dial, gold stick markers, 100m, automatic 487xx movement, 21,600 bph, no reserve power indicator, date, gold SS case and bracelet. MSRP 550? 228 landed; possibly less at 90%
Seiko SPL008-Coutura, 41.5/10mm case, black dial World Timer with 24 cities listed on the bezel, 100m, saphlex crystal, chrono, alarm, gold SS case and bracelet, date, quartz. MSRP 495 132.50 landed This model usually lists for 200-270 on ebay.
Pros/Cons of each:
The Orient Star WZO281ER is classy, but without the power reserve indicator, a tad boring for my taste. Also, the thickness might get hung up on my 9 1/4" cuffs. I like the looks of the Seiko World Timer chrono better. Maybe having 2 similar rotating watches for work isn't so bad. At least all the adjustments would be the same. I was looking to get a Kinetic, but this model with a kinetic is 3 times the price. Not worth it to me.
As a novice amateur horologist getting started on his watch collection, I just got 2 months ago, a Seiko SNA343, very similar to the above Seiko, except it's Silver SS with a blueberry/eggplant dial chrono alarm, with no world timer. Ideally, I'd like to get 5-8 Seiko's and Orients, a couple Citizens-like an Attesa duratec DLC, and I have an incoming G Shock.
Just yesterday I got my Orange Monster. Fantastic lume, awesome bracelet, solid construction, and surprisingly accurate-only 3 secs off in 30 hours. ( I couldn't bear to take it off, so I slept with my Monster last night:-d)
So my point above is that with 2 Seiko's already, adding a 3rd would put me behind on my Orients. Before Christmas, I ordered a World Timer Orient 2EMOHOO9B-AU gold SS case and bracelet, black dial and IMHO a unique look. Unfortunately, Kenmar is out of stock and doesn't know when they'll be in.
No worries. Nathan pointed out that the bracelet is cheap, and he hasn't even worn his, even though he, like me, picked this one as his first Orient.
I'll still get this one, but will add a leather strap-thanks Yogev-and will use it more casually. Then I'll get my Blue Mako.:-)
Sigh:think:....What to do?.....
