Re: Popular Seiko Models Discontinued -- Including SARB065 Cocktail Time

First, lemme say THANK YOU for posting this. Not many of us would've seen the blog post.

Then: I'm not all that surprised they're dropping the Cocktail Time. I suspect all the SARx models are going to be closed out, possibly with a realignment into their named lines like Presage as the new models are released. (Or maybe they'll create a new line name.) It may also be that they're just trimming down the catalog; they offer a HUGE assortment of models. A third plausible motive: time to retire the 6R15 and replace it with something upgraded. Ergo, they retire *popular* 6R15's, to come out with something similar but with the upgraded movements. Instant popularity ensues. ETA has upgraded the 2824...for their use...as the Powermatic 80; the 6R15 is apparently at revision C, but the basis is over 10 years old now. So it's probably time, and the motive is evident.

And, yeah, it'd be nice if they could make it a bit thinner.

I wonder if they'll stay JDM, or whether they'll shoot for broader release. That would be another reason to retire the old ones, so you can do splashy ad campaigns about new models.

All in all, I'm inclined to actually be optimistic about these retirements.

Hmm. I didn't see the pics watchlover posted before I finished my earlier posting.

We'll have to see, tho. If there are NO other changes but the realignment into Presage...which is becoming their higher-decoration line (it's where the new enamel-dial versions are being released)...that still makes sense. A longtime critique of Seiko has been the total confusion in their model names and lines. Also, sliding it into the Presage line means it gets broad distribution, not just JDM. Vis:

If it looks exactly the same as the previous cocktail time, is thinner, and has a better movement I will probably buy it. So I don't think that is trolling at all if that was the case.

Oh and I believe it is 40mm? They need to make it 38mm too.

That thought crossed my mind too. A touch smaller would be a good thing.

Oh, if we're on a wish list...imagine a light brown and white, rather than the blue and white. That might be very nice. Light green is another and might work better with the high polish steel.

If the SARY designation is any indication, it will house a 4R38 movement which I assume allows Seiko to consolidate their production a bit. Seiko also appears to be ditching any marketing around it being part of their Mechanical line in lieu of the new Presage branding. Similarly, I have not seen any marketing mention of it being a collaboration as the Mechanical x Shinobu Ishigaki “Cocktail Time Cool”

That said, it is not likely to be the exactly the same watch by name or guts. I am curious to see what it will be priced at given these changes.
