you'll get many different answers on this. i don't upgrade anything on my car until it breaks or is totally worn out. i take the same approach to crystals. wait til you get some good scratches in it before investing in sapphire. you may find the mineral to be quite resistant to scratches. i've found flat Hardlex to be very resistant to scratches and domed Hardlex to be extremely susceptible to them. i'm really careful with my Tuna and i have two scratches in the top of the dome (ie- center of the crystal) that i have no clue how they got there
