    Seiko at Basel 2010

What do you thinkof Seiko's offerings this year?

Grand Seiko - the slightly busier commemorative dials are growing on me. It's a nice little Lion logo, after all. The revised rotors of the auto and spring dive are p0rn. Interestingly, Seiko will be rolling out Grand Seiko to inetrnational markets:

Premier - no mechanicals any more? Hmm:

Comemmorative Astron. The innovation to ensure the seconds hand always lines up perfectly sounds interesting. I can see this being adopted by Grand Seiko quartz in the near future. I would really like this one, but a rubber strap? At least it comes with a black croc strap too. I thought this would be nice to add to my collection untilI saw the price - 4,300 Euros!!!

Sportura - I don't mind this style, as a sporty watch. Prices here in Oz are brutal, though. Interesting to see a mech chrono (8r28) join the lneup. I don't like the exposed date wheel:

    Ananta:

    Velatura:

EPD Active Matrix Watch. Holy smokes! If the reallife quality is as good as these pics, I'd wear this. It's the watch of the future - today!

    The Basel 2010 stand:

A few pics of Seiko's space - looks good to me:

Disappointments? Hardly any new mechanicals. No new divers apart from the Brightz. Interestingly, the Brightz is not shown on the 2010 site - I have no idea why. I was hoping for:
    • Updated Diver line, with solid endlink bracelets
    • Updated SBCM023, with bigger case and solid endlinks
    • Updated Sumo, with engraved bezeland maybe a better bracelet
    • Updated MM300 with engraved bezel and triplock gaskets
    • New mechanical Premier line, with 4Sxx and 6Sxx movements
    • A surprise from Credor - new sporty chrono
In summation, I would have to say Seiko at Basel 2010 is a huge disappointment for me.

    Re: Seiko at Basel 2010

I asked the question in another thread whether new divers would usually be shown at something like BaselWorld. In past years has Seiko done more to highlight their dive watches at this event?

It seems like the company is focusing on things that are either high end or quartz (or both). I guess both of those make sense, Seiko wants to establish itself up-market a bit. And this is the anniversary of quartz, I think, so they are giving it a push as well.

My personal tastes for Seikos tend to run to the divers, so I would like to see whatever new models they have as well.

    Seiko Le Grand Sport SLC028
    Orient Single Eye Classic CDB05001

I hope Seiko represents itself well there.
BTW how empty would this forum be if the Basel 2010 show was on TV
I think that would be awesome.

ya i'm a bit dissapointed there are no new SARB watches shown, though I dont know if seiko really releases their midrange stuff at big shows, maybe only the big releases like a new line or expensive stuff?

Maybe Seiko didn't display too many great pieces, but the news of Grand Seiko going international more than made up for it.

    Re: Seiko at Basel 2010

I basically agree with you; there wasn't much of anything from Seiko this year that I found exciting or interesting. The Velatura, Premier, and Anata lines never interested me to begin with, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I was hoping for some mechanical divers and additions to the Spirit lineup. But maybe Seiko doesn't show less expensive stuff at Basel, I don't know. And I was really hoping for a MM300 upgrade/replacement, as you noted in your post. Maybe more interesting stuff will trickle out after Basel...here's to hoping!

Your cat looks very similar to my late cat, Snowy. She was a great cat.
