According to the competent martback about Seiko’s Skyliner (The Skyliner - another Seiko brand story ), and Seiko Sea Lion (Collection Part 6 - A flock of Sealions - Dress watches from the mid 60s.), the 6220 caliber appears that it was created by Suwa Seikosha since 1961 to 1968. Also on the list of calibers (on Timezone) include releases 6220B, C, D, M Suwa Seikosha all production.
One of my friends has recently bought by eBay U.S. this example of a Seiko watch with caliber manual 6220M. (Picture by Archluca) (Picture by Archluca)This belongs neither to the Skyliner, and to Sea Lion, because as both the dial and the caseback, are anonymous. From the pic you can see that there is engraved 6220M DAINI SEIKOSHA: (Picture by Archluca)Looking at the catalog Seiko 1969 for the American market (on the Watch Photo Database in SCWF) on page 8 it can be found at the bottom left, between the Hand Wind Classics, Ref No. AQ003 (at a price for that time $ 29.95). (Image from Seiko catalog 1969)Consideration: It is possible that after the production of the caliber 6220 in 1968 by Suwa there were movements made redundant and that they had been transferred to Daini for a distribution from the 1969 and aimed at the international or purely American market, perhaps because there were stocks left to manual calibers (it was in the middle of heat of automatic watches). Here another example of a recent auction from eBay, from November 1966, on his caseback is engraved Daini Seikosha co Ltd: This would explain the fact that the 6220M was a revision of previous versions of 6220 and it was also typical of Daini Seikosha? What role had Daini in the export market? Can anyone confirm or refute this hypothesis? Thanks in advance. Best regards. Flavio |
