I did understand the technical why it was there. It was a rhetorical question as to the ultimate decision to leave the gap.

I echo that sentiment. I don't know why seiko doesn't embrace smaller vintage sizes for it's more upscale stuff this watch at 35-38mm would be a killer. I think this looks many times better than a sinn. I sill want one. I wish the the sarg with the red seconds hand came on a SS bracelet like this one. Ugh cmon seiko!

So this beautiful thing showed up today. I was going back and forth on ordering one off eBay from Japan, then one popped up for sale used at a price I could not pass up. Im glad I pulled the trigger, this thing is just what I was hoping for, very much like the Explorer look I was going for. Resizing the braclet was easy but I didn't notice any collars in the center links. Either I missed them or the previous owner lost them, I may have to pull it apart again and take another look. I heard they have a tendency to fall out but maybe mine are in there good. For reference my wrist is a 7 3/8" and the 40mm looks great, maybe 38-39mm size would have worked well too.

That's exactly what I was looking for - 011 on steel. I'm very surprised these SARG's (009/011) don't get more attention. They are highly underrated.

The 011 is matte black (deep charcoal grey) and the 009 is sunburst black.

Is the 009 really sunburst? I thought both had same dial.

The 009 and 011 do not have the same dial. the 009 is sunburst and darker. I have the 011. It's matte/dark charcoal. Textured so it does not reflect. The number markers are also a little off white/almond colored.... It looks more vintage to me.
