    Sumo vs BFK?

    Dear All--

After reading the recent, enthusiastic posts on the Seiko Sumo, I have started wondering if it might be a watch I'd like to get.

I haven't really considered it because I thought its size (44 mm) would be too big for me--I have a 6.5" left wrist. (I had also read somewhere on WUS that the BFK [as I think it's sometimes called?], which is also a 44mm watch I believe, wears VERY large.)

But now, after reading the recent postings, one by another poster with 6.5" wrists, I'm giving the Sumo another look. I think the watch is beautiful.

So: can others--perhaps those who have seen both the Sumo and the BFK--speak to how large they wear?

    Many thanks!:thanks

Both wear large on my 7.1 - 7.2 inch wrist. BFK wears higher. Sumo wears wider. Both cases cover most of the top of my wrist. Both look and feel great.

    Thanks, Jason_Recliner,

I read something about how the lugs of the Sumo curve downwards around the wrist, so that, even if the watch is large, it still is not overwhelming for someone with smaller wrists, like me. Does that sound right to you?

    Re: Sumo vs BFK?

The Sumo lugs do curve down - it sits very flat and low on the wrist, and so is very comfortable. It looks very wide, I believe this is because the 20mm bracelet is relatively narrow for the big head. Some people don't like this, they think it looks too top heavy, but I like the way the head looks sowide and round. It is a big wide watch when you wear it, no doubt.

The BFK looks longer and narrower, due to the notched and tapered bracelet I think.

I recommend buying a Sumo off the forums and if you really don't like it you won't lose much if you flip it.

Both are amazing value, the BFK especially so when you consider it is half the price of the Sumo. My BFK is not perfect (the seconds hand doesn't hit the markers, and the bezel alignment is slightly off) but I'm wearing it now and it is one heck of a watch, it can stand head to head with any of the other divers in my collection.

    Re: Sumo vs BFK?

The Sumo is a nicer piece than the BFK in my opinion. Both are large pieces if you can handle a big watch. I ended up getting rid of all my Sumos because although it wears quite comfortably due to the slope of the lugs, no matter how you cut it, it's large and I didn't like how big it looked on my 7" wrist. It's a work of art though, that case!

    Thanks, everyone, for your input!

Thanks especially, ex001, for all of the wristshots of your 44 mm watches--it helps a lot to see what they look like on someone with a comparably sized wrist.

Its funny how the MarineMaster looks smaller than the Sumo--why is that?

    Thanks again!

Because in most dimensions, it is. The MM is thicker though and they both wear the same size bracelet, though the one in the MM is much nicer.

    Re: Sumo vs BFK?

Have had both, sold the BFK. Way too big on my 7" wrist to be comfortable. On rubber the BFK would be fine for me but the bracelet was just way too bulky for me.

The Sumo is far more wearable.
