Alpinist... I just had to get one before it's too late. What an amazing watch for the money!
I had reservations about the quirky green dial but I'm really happy now. Digging how it changes in different light
My newly-arrived SARX033:
I'm wearing it mostly because it is new and I'm getting used to it, and making sure I've sized the bracelet correctly (which I think I have; I was wondering if it should be a half-link smaller but don't think so now).
I'm really rather conflicted about this watch - I like it in general but it is rather expensive given its sub-prime movement and that I seldom like wearing watches on bracelets - and the bracelet is a rather large proportion of the value of this piece to my way of thinking. But I love the stark minimalism of the dial, the way the well-polished applied indicies and blued hands catch the light - and that the watch and bracelet work together as a whole. The finish is excellent and I find the high contrast good for legibility with my aging eyes. But mostly I jumped because I prefer the smaller italic "Automatic" script to Seiko's newer "PRESAGE AUTOMATIC" branding for a minimalist dial such as this. Which I guess is rather petty of me, but still...
I don't think these will be available new for too much longer (even if Seiko keep the basic design, it will likely be for a new reference with the newer branding). And I would occasionally like a dressier watch on bracelet (the other watches I wear on-bracelet are rather less than dressy). So I talked myself into it, against my better judgement about the not-too-flash movement with dodgy precision and accuracy (so far mine seems to be around +12sec/day but I've not fully verified that). Perhaps this watch is an indulgence, but I guess that's OK. I think. Maybe. At any rate, it's done now.
I finally got this little bastard blind-regulated to +5s per day on the wrist and -4s per day in the watch box. Another day of testing and I can get back into a more diverse rotation (of mostly Seikos).
My modded SKX031 that I bought in 2015. It's my first automatic watch and it means a lot to me since I paid for it with my first paycheck out of college. It's been with me for 3 years and although it loses 15-20 seconds a day, it's my daily beater and my only watch. I've saved enough money and just purchased an MM300 and look to enjoy that one for years to come. Also preordered the SLA019. 2018 is a big year for watches for me.
