Re: Ballistic Nylon/Kevlar/Nomex Strap Discussion Poll and Design Thread

Well after a long wait…the Hook and Pile Tape AKA “VELCRO” Finally arrived

I have three sizes for three different prototypes.

The High-Air, is what NASA on its Spacesuits.

The Black 0599 is mostly used by the military and the Aero Space Industry.

Now, I have all the components that I need, and now the actual process of putting this strap together will start.

Be patient, as I have said before, I have taken on a task that others have tried and have not completed….I have worked out the principles of making it in theory, now I along with engineers, have make it a reality. Ask Mitch sometimes this is not as easy as it sounds.

There is no 100% Kevlar Strap that ever has been made, although it seems simple it is not, it’s a daunting task.

Kevlar is not easy to work with in small sizes, but once done, you will have a strap that will beat out the Nylon, and composite straps, and be able to take punishment, and not only survive, but look good, feel good, and be comfortable.

    Regards,

    John

    UPDATE!

The Kevlar/Nomex Strap has been made, and completed!

Pix when there is sun outside and I can take lots of photos.

Remember this is a prototype; it was all made by hand…by me...

Re: Ballistic Nylon/Kevlar/Nomex Strap Discussion Poll and Design Thread

    Well All,

As promised, the world first 100% KEVLAR, and NOMEX Watch Strap. The Strap weave is 100% Kevlar. The Hook and Pile Tape (VELCRO) is 100% NOMEX. The Thread is KEVLAR.

I designed this without any help from the engineers as each had a different theory on how to cut it and not have it fray. I solved the problem.

It is Quadruple Stitched at all the points it needs to be.

It is comfortable, and tested in water. It will fit a 6.5” Wrist, and go up to a 9” Wrist. For most it will go over a wetsuit, I tried it on mine, and it was an excellent fit!

The name of the strap is the SGX (PAT- PEND), I have applied for a patent for the strap layout, design, and manufacture, as this type of strap has never been made before, it has been tried, but no one figured out the solution.

For the O7 line, it will have an O7 Stamped on the metal ring, and it will have an O7 logo placed on it.

    Regards,

    John

Looks really great John! Any idea on a production schedule yet? I'm anxious to see what you and Mitch come up with on the logo. I think O7 (in the correct font of course) on each side of the watch would be cool but maybe you already have some definite ideas (more than one?) about logos and colors.

Either way, thanks for all your hard work over an extended period of time. I know how even a seemingly simple project can get complex in a hurry especially when you have no minions to do the grunt work. Hope your patent application is granted quickly without any snags. :thanks

Re: Ballistic Nylon/Kevlar/Nomex Strap Discussion Poll and Design Thread

    Hey GM,

Thanks! It is much appreciated. A lot of work went into this.

Believe it or not, the most frustrating thing was not designing it or doing the legwork it was dealing with one company, who was supposed to send me the Hook and Pile Tape, and promised it was ordered…well it wasn’t. So, it was people who said there were going to deliver, but did not, which was the problem (lots of calls).

I hope the patent goes through fast, once it passes the initial processing stage then there is no problem.

I don’t know when it will be ready as now they have to specially tool up to actually make the strap (the patent process will be almost finished by then)…designing it and making the prototype was the easy part! LOL!

    Regards,

    John

This pic from JonW (hope you don't mind buddy?) for maratac style LM-7 strap. Don't know what the Ocean 7 weave colour would be on it though. Maybe the orange one.

    Nice work, John

How about some shots of the strap alone, so we can check out the stitching and buckles?
