Sorry for being late to the dance but I just found this thread. Sounds like a worthwhile project.

Have you thought about a deployant/bracelet style version at all, in one or two piece (pass-through or fastened at the spring bars)?

I don't know of any such thing available in any type of fabric.

I need a watch I can grab and put on on the run, in the middle of the night and groggy, as a volunteer firefighter. Clasps are so much quicker than buckles.

    Just my two cents...

    Hey Moonhawk,

Let me get this one out of the way before I try to figure out how to do the others. LOL!

The problem is this isn’t like nylon, so, I have to work and think outside of the box on this one.

I like your ideas, and I will try to work on it, one at a time, I have to get this prototype made, and sit down and concentrate how to make the Kevlar work with me.

I am a former Vol. Firefighter, and Rescue Diver myself, B.C.V.F.D. (Dist. 8), and H.C.U.S. & R.T…FF# 843. For three years.

    Regards,

Re: Ballistic Nylon/Kevlar/Nomex Strap Discussion Poll and Design Thread

My favorite strap like this is the Stocker Yale Beefy, single strap, one fixed keeper, one floating (both keepers made from webbing), extra long length, ie if you put on a wet suit, you have extra strap, the Benrus Type I's came with long straps, but did not have floating keeper. 3rd and 4th bagged straps at top below the two zulu's are beefy's.

Room for improvement in this strap.

Maratac caliber contruction: ultra sonic drilling of holes, ultra sonic welding and stitching of the webbing and non magnetic hardware.

Addtionally, given 07's are 24MM lug width, using webbing of the thickness of the Maratac Zulu's makes sence.

Lastly the buckle on the Beefy is too delicate in my opinion for a heavy 24MM watch, non-magnetic hardare like buckle on Maratac's Zulu's would be fine with me.

With respect to the offer, so long as a steath version's done, PVD the buckle, do the O7 embroidered logo in a subdued color like charcoal grey or even black, in addition to the obvious need for Black with orange and silver w/ silver buckle.

Here's the real story on straps represented as being Kevlar. Of course we don't know if every one is the same, but this is very much representative of the composition of the thread used in "Kevlar" straps.

I plan on down the road, making it a tactical version, but at this point, just focusing on getting one done.

    Very good post Mitch!

And that is a high estimate of the percentage of Kevlar used to make straps.

I know of one manufacturer that only the thread used to stitch the strap is Kevlar, but yet the call the strap a Kevlar strap.

Update…after many phone calls, and getting thins sorted…

The Proper and Correct Hook and Pile Tape is being shipped to me, so I can finally have a prototype strap made.

I will post photos of the new tape as soon as it arrives.

    Regards,
