If you're looking for an investment, watches (expect in very rare instances) are a bad bet, even limited edition ones.

This is not a prototype watch (note the Type 3 dial and other modern components). It's my watch which a mate Photoshopped up to look like one of the early Ploprof prototypes. Some early Ploprofs had red crown locks (not red crowns - the crown is the square thing outside of the ribbed crown lock), but not all. I have photos of a COMEX prototype Ploprof which does not have a red crown lock.
That doesn't change Graeme's point, I just want to keep the facts straight![]()

Only to you. I am sure someone else will buy the one you were going to buy. IMHO this isn't the type of piece you want to make a "LE" out of. But then again I see no value in LE status. Plus in a true LE status watch you announce it upfront, not down the line. Save that for original design watches, not homage watches. This is a "wear it and enjoy it" watch, not a keep in a safe watch. Plus, if there are a thousand people that want to buy one, I would darn well sell them one.
I agree with Steve that watches are usually a bad investment. But wouldn't you have wished you stocked up on some Pre-Vendome Pam's? They are worth a heck of a lot more than their original retails now. I paid $750 for my LM-1 LE and was HAPPY to do so. I truly feel that this brand may become collectible. Especially if the prices stay and low and don't become like Kobold; even if they do all the earlier pieces increase as retails increase. As to the Ploprof not being an LE, that is a-ok as I'm happy just to be in the first run. I have the highest expectations for this piece and I'm sure they will be met. The silver/black date wheel just puts it over the top for me!
I think it will garner a ton of attention. Especially after production and pictures of wrist shots start floating around. Is this the most attention ever given to an Ocean7 watch? I'm a new guy around here so I'm just curious. Looking through the past posts, this one seems big.

BROKER
Thanks very much for the summary and status report, Mitch.
If the anodized HEV is viable, durable (in terms of colour fade) and there are spares available for the really serious divers amongst us, that's the option we should go with. I am interested to see what the watch engineers say about the anodized HEV, but I think in the end, we all feel comfortable with whatever decision you make on this issue, Mitch.
As for the movement, if you can choose between the two for the production run, I'd actually also prefer the SW200, as everything that I have read and heard about it is rating it top notch for both accuracy from the factory as well as reliability / durability.
As for LE as an investment, I completely agree with what's been said here before. Not a good idea for an investment and quite frankly, as I've said previsouly, I'm buying this beaut because of the watch itself.
Anyway, just my two cents.
Ciao,

Mitch, can you set up a link on your website at which people can sign up to be notified you're taking deposits for LM-7s?
Thanks.
Graeme... hmmm... photo robbed from the DeskDivers article you mean...
I dont always mind people borrowing photos to illustrate points on forums, but why cant people reference the photo's owners? It takes mere seconds and is the proper thing to do.
The photo in question was made up as a joke some time back and then we didnt have a prototype photo that we could get permission to use when writing the article but we still wanted to show people an idea of what the prototype would look like. We used that photo as it was very obvious that it is not a real prototype and hence it wont fool any real collectors when some scrote steals it and tries to sell one on ebay etc.
Mitch, good work on this watch by the way.![]()
I get asked a lot so, Yep... Im the guy that wrote the PloProf book and also writes for the DeskDivers and PloProf websites. Feel free to visit my website Jon Wallis dot com if you would like to know more about either.
FYI, under current law, images, including copyrighted images and other works, can be gleaned from the Internet and posted elsewhere for educational purposes (and a few other uses including satire) under the "fair use" exemption/defense.
That said, I agree, people "should" give credit to the source, but it's not mandatory and it certainly isn't "stealing" or "robbing."
Anyone who is really concerned about others using their images should label them with an overlay as many do. Below is an example.
