Anodised aluminum doesn't oxidise as bare aluminum does since the anodisation is a surface treatment which essentially seals the aluminum. The whole anodising/aluminum issue has been discussed in great detail on other threads.

The latest CAD drawing looks fantastic Mitch. Looking forward to seeing the bracelet choices you'll be offering.
    Lots of dive watches.

I have read the other posts about the anodization.

None of which though shed any light on how it will stand up to repeated seawater immersion.

I am not buying a show watch, the watch is made as a 'pro', and i intend to use it. I appreciate that with a stainless option i do not have to use the aluminium button but a red covered stainless button as a second option would be really nice.
I brought this matter up again as i got the impression that it had not been fully resolved. All else on the watch looks to be excellent, i felt this was one aspect that was not.
My concern is the red anodised button will inevitably get scratched which is when it will then get affected by immersion.

I feel that for a perfect watch this would be a small change this late in the day................unless of course we have an expert in the house that knows otherwise, as i mentioned before dive kit does not come in aluminium.

I feel i must mention all this rather than not and hope no one minds.

Carl, I live in Louisiana not far from the Gulf of Mexico and am around salt water all the time. I can't tell how many products that are made for salt water use have adonized aluminum in their construction. For example, every saltwater fishing rod I have has an adonized aluminum spool on them. I have had a few of them for quite a few years and they look brand new. I just rinse/wash them well after use just as you would any watch after a dive in a saltwater environment. I just looked at a couple of my oldest reels that are around 10 years old. I don't see any pitting on them at all and they have been used extensively. My neighbors boat has adonized aluminum ladders and the canopy frame is adonized aluminum. Adonized aluminum is quite common in the saltwater environment.

I couldn't have written this better myself. I have about 4 reels that are anodized aluminum and after probably 100 trips into the LA marsh (saltwater), they have held up wonderfully. Rinsing them off thoroughly after each use has caused no issues with them.

I've seen and used anodized aluminum in:

Mountain bike components as Nalu depicted elsewhere.
Very pricey paintball markers (guns) Adrenaline Angel LCD
Custom flashlights (McLux PDIII, ARC AAA-P, Lumapower MRV)

I've yet to see a red annodizing not fade from solar radiation alone.

In my opinion anodizing aluminum preserves the material better than without, but the color would likely fade in time, length of time varying by exposure and quality of anno job and grade of aluminum stock.
