Re: thanks for the comments, Mitch...

I like it at that price.
I'd leave the crown guard off if it saves a few bucks.
Many of my crowns are unguarded and none have escaped!
I'd seriously consider a sea-critter though, something off the wall, like a sea-slug might be just the gimmick you need!
I'll waive any royalties for 5 free watches if you use my idea Mitch.

Re: Coming Soon from Ocean7 Watches!!

    Dibetu,

I see your point and understand your concerns. The way I look at the project, it is a unique design. No watch that we know of has this particular combination of features at any price point, but I think you can make equally good arguments either way. After all, it's a matter of personal taste in watch design. We will never make everyone happy, and there will always be critics. That's fine. Lots of other companies make watches!

We do have the financial backing to complete this project and more. I'm not sure if we will ever look to a traditional retail channel, but it is a possibility for the future. Traditional retail channels, for the most part, want 50% margins or more, and the watch is certainly not priced to sell to stores, at $150. We have some good ideas for marketing the watch on the Internet.

One thing I'm sure of is that after the first production run, the retail price will increase significantly.

Tragic - interesting, a sea slug! The expense is not in the crown guard, but in the design of a custom crown, versus one that's off the shelf. More on this next week. Your point about leaving out the crown gauard is well taken. I'll stare at the Sinn U1 some more this weekend. We are seriously discussing leaving it out.

I Like It... but lose the date! Its
too small to see and WHY does a diver
need to know the date in the first place?
    Good Luck!!!

    Dante221,

For some reason, and I can't really explain why, having a date is a comfort factor, even if it's small. We'll discuss this.

    Hi Mitch,

I am a newbie to the forum, but an old hand with dive watches. I like the proposed look - in particular the PloProf-type hands. My own $0.02: I am glad there is no silly helium escape valve, which is my personal bugaboo with certain dive watches - in particular those rated to 300M. And I don't think you need a crown guard. just a nice big, fat crown - like the previous IWC Aquatimer model, before they changed it and messed it up! And finally, a rubber strap with tang-type buckle. Thanks for listening, and good luck!

Forum members and Mods please note and save this thread.
Mitch made no reply to my generous request of 5 free watches in lieu of royalties.
If the "Ocean7 SeaSlug" is released and sells like hotcakes, I'm definitely suing!

    Tragic,

Sorry to be the one to break it to you, but the Ikepod Seaslug has been out for a number of years now - although they just used the name, so there is still hope!

    I like it...

    Aloha LaHugh and Mitch,

With all the new dive watch designs I've seen recently, I was pleasantly surprised that your design and specs expand, not just duplicate, the field. 316L case, sapphire crystal, great dial and hands, 2824-A2 movement, 300M WR make for a solid dive watch. Crown at 4:00 (hard to beat the comfort this provides) and the wider strap lug width (my theory is that watches are too small for their strap when the case diameter/strap lug width ratio is greater than 2:1) added to the other specs is something no one yet offers. That 24mm strap width not only works with Panerai straps, but the 24mm Zulu strap, which I happen to have on attached to my G2310B-1V G-Shock. I think your watch with this strap would be a dynamite combination. Crown guards are probably not necessary, given your crown location, which provides natural protection against damage. And if you can do this with an introductory price of $299, you'll have a waiting list of buyers.

I'm going to love seeing this watch go together. Looks like the perfect thing for the warm waters of my hometown.

    Mahalo,

Re: Coming Soon from Ocean7 Watches!!

    Gentlemen,

I like the clean uncluttered look of the proposed watch and if there is to be a date, one at 6 as shown is definitely my preferance. I would prefer larger 5 minute markers to promote greater luminosity and would hope that there might be a choice for a rubber/silicone strap as well.

I will be looking forward to progress on your watch and company.

    Thanks for asking for input,

    Bob
