    Mitch,

Overall, the watch looks absolutely fantastic!

Personally, I believe a thickness of 16.5mm is pushing it. The thickest watch I currently own is my Breitling SuperOcean Steelfish at 15mm and it's pretty darn thick. I've listed below the stated dimensions of some of my other mechanical watches for reference (quartz and manual wind omitted because they are both inherently thinner).

I like the bead-blasted look, but a brushed finish looks good also and, as you noted, it's simple to "clean up." Among other things, an easy maintenance finish means less complaints/headaches down the road. B-)

    Breitling SuperOcean Steelfish: 15mm
    Doxa SUB 600T: 13mm
    Glycine Lagunare: 13mm
    Stowa Seatime: 13.5
Muhle Glashutte SAR (previously owned): 13.5mm

My favorite diver? Jessica Alba, of course!

    Steve,

Good point. We need to see what the case height requirement is for the 2824-2, and also the other movement we want to use. I'm sure we can shave a mm or 2 off the height.

I really like the contrast between the bead blasted finish and the brushed outer bezel, but when reality sets in, you're right. We'll brush the whole thing.

16.5 mm is typical for a UTS......and it is big

I would prefer brushed also due to the maintenance issues and my belief that BB can look a little cheap. If you've ever seen the BB vs. brushed finished Tutima DI 300 you'll know what I mean.

I didn't realize that the bezel will be black. Is that the final idea? Looks much better IMO

    Re: Ocean7 Announcements

I think the more correct statement would be 16.5mm is unique to the UTS.

The only one I can think of off the top of my head that is thicker is the Breitling Avenger Seawolf at a whopping 18.4mm! :-D

BTW, Mitch, all of the watches in my list utilize the 2824-2. Their depth ratings range from 300m to 1500m. B-)

Zeno Army Diver 300M is only 40mm wide and 17mm thick, but looks great and wears very comfortably. I think 45mm case can accomodate the thickness specified in the design.

I think it makes more sense to do a brushed SS. If the owner wants to have it blasted or pvd'd then they can get that done by I.W.W. or someone else.

16.5mm is not too big for me. The Orsa Sea Angler is 16mm and wears nicely for me. I might be biased because I am 6' 5" and 270lbs. :-D

    Re: Ocean7 Announcements

I don't think it's a question of whether the case can accomodate the thickness. Obviously, it can. The question should be whether the wearer can or would wish to accomodate a watch of that thickness. For most, I suspect the answer is no. A common criticism of the aforementioned Breitling Avenger Seawolf is that it sits too tall on the wrist and it, btw, has a case diameter of 44mm.

Though I personally would have no problem with a case thickness of 16.5mm, I think the average person would and I see no reason to make a watch case thicker (and consequently heavier) just for the sake of doing so.
