    Re: Ocean7 Announcements

I personally would like the 16.5 mm thickness. This is a bold, chunky (in a great way) looking watch, and I believe the thicker case size suits the design well. When this thread first started, and the dimensions were announced, I was extremely excited about the thickness, because you don't see that kind of heighth too often.

I believe cutting down the case a couple mm would be detracting from the visual design of the watch, for a difference in wearability that may not even be noticed. A properly designed watch will still wear very well at 16.5mm.

Personally, I hope you go with a brushed finish. Both bezel designs look good.

    17.5mm......

For those of you who might not have seen what 17.5mm looks like on a wrist, here ya go...

To compare what a 15mm case would look like, here's a PAM 86...

There's no denying that 16.5mm is big, but the Ocean7 looks a lot sleeker than the Schaumburg and with a domed crystal (right?) it will have a better profile too!

As me and my downhill mountain biking pals always say...GO BIG OR GO EAT!!!

I love the progress and discussion on this watch. Can't wait to strap it on! Personally, I hope you can shave a a mm or two off the height. Its going to be big and bold enough that it doesnt need to be massively tall also. My two cents. I also agree about the brushed all over vs. bead blasting. Not a big fan of bb. First time I am seeing the black bezel. I much prefer the silver in the original drawings and not sure which is going to be used.

    Mitch & LaHugh,

I would prefer a brushed finish for all the reasons listed above plus I think it just looks better. I also have no problem with a height of 16.5mm and I love watches where the dial exhibits a sense of depth, so if a height of 16.5mm allows this to be accomplished all the better.

    I can hardly wait!:-D

Thanks, Steve, and everyone else. We'll have some answers next week on the case thickness issue.

We'll definitely switch to a brushed finish.

Serafino & Mike03 - PVD will be an option later, not now. All preorder watches will be brushed stainless.

Brad - That band gives me some ideas.

Ragat - I like big, too, but we also have to think about the average guy who buys the watch - will he return it because it's too thick, or will we get sued because he accidentally kills his cat with it?

The way I look at it is that if its the cat's time to go then there's not much you can do about it!:-D

Regarding case size, I'm not a particularly large individual, 6'1''- 195lbs with a wrist size around 7.5" and I find watches around 42-45mm with a height of 13-16mm to my liking and with larger sizes becoming commonplace I suspect I'm not in the minority.
Of course I want your watch company to become a complete success and you folks seem to have a good feel for the market you are entering so I will be very happy with any decisions you make.

BTW, Mitch, all of the watches in my list utilize the 2824-2. Their depth ratings range from 300m to 1500m. B-)

Here is the puny 18.4mm thick Breitling Avenger Seawolf next to the GP Seahawk II Pro at 20.11mm (sorry not too good of a picture).
