Picture Seiko Sawtooth - mini review by Dsaat

Recently I bought two Seiko watches that impressed me so much that I decided to write a review on both. This review on the Seiko Sawtooth is the first and the second one will be on the Seiko Black Monster and will follow soon.

Some of you might have seen my other post with a picture of both my new Seiko's. See below, aren't these two a handsome couple?

Ok, back on subject now! it's easy to get distracted but I'll try my best.
Sometimes pictures say more then a thousand words (and I don't enjoy writing so much) so I'll use some pictures in this review to make my point. I don't own a macro lens (yet) but it tried my best with my zoom lens to make the best closeup pictures I can.

A while a go I stumbled on a picture of a Seiko Sawtooth and it hasn't left my mind till I bought one myself. I blame this on WUS by the way... it's really dangerous to spend time here since all these pictures of watches are way to tempting... I might search some help soon before there will be an intervention .. however my girlfriend hasn't threatend to leave me yet so I think I'm still in the safezone..

Ok.. I apperantly really have some issues to focus so back on topic again..

As you may know the Sawtooth is a discontinued model and therefor hard to get. I managed to find a new one though. Actually it has been put to gether by monsterwatches dot nl. They used a new empty case, shroud and a new dial. That's how I got the carbonfiber dial with the steel bezel (instead of the black bezel).

I really love the dial and it has a very nifty 3D effect wich can't be caught on a photo.. you'll have to see it in real to understand what I mean. I tried to capture it thoug, see the picture below!

I like the fact that the day and date wheel are black on this watch. It's a small detail of course but I think it makes a big difference. If you look at the picture you can see the watch also has lume at the 3 o'clock position wich is another detal I like.

The Sawtooth obviously got his nickname because of the bezel design wich has a sawtooth shaped edge. The bezel feels tight and yet not stiff. It is a typically Seiko bezel like we are used too. And that is imo a good thing!

What I like most of the watch is it's unique design. It is no homage in any way, however it might remind you of the seiko tuna but only because of the shroud. A big difference in the shroud is that the lugs of the Sawtooth are attach to the shroud and the shroud is attached to the watch case with four screws (if you take the screws off you will have a bracelet witch a shroud and no watch case in the center). The tuna has the lugs attached to the watch case and the shroud is also attach to the watch case. I think the tuna hase the more durable construction but the nagain it's 3, 4 or 5 time the price of a sawtooth.

The shroud has a nice angle and an edge in the middle. Then the shroud disappears into the bracelet in a very elegant way. See the photo.

The Sawtooth is a big watch. It's 47mm without the crown. However it's a pretty thin watch too (12mm). Mostly beacause of it's quartz movement. I can't imagine it would be that thin if it had an automatic movement.

Beacause of it's thinness and the angle of the lugs the watch appears to wear smaller on the wrist then most 47mm watches.

The crown and the screws have the same texture wich stands out nicely form the brushed shroud.

The bracelet of the watch has solid links and fits nicely around my wrist. It also has solid end links wich is pretty cool for it's price. It's thinner and less heavy than the Monsters bracelet. The bracelet has a brushed and polish finish. See the picture:

I think this is all I wanted to say and I hope the pictures do the rest. Below two more pictures from a different angle:

Believe it or not but the Sawtooth has brighter lume than a Monster!!!
Below you see a picture with the two lume monsters compared.

I made a quick lumeshot without spending too much time on it. You can see I didn't use a long exposure time if you look at the second hand. And there was light in the background so these watches are really glowing bright.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed it. I also appologize if I get somebody in trouble for buying a watch because of this thread
