    changing ink

The piston converter in my Lamy Studio is about half full with Waterman black, and I'd like to switch to the Noodler's Bulletproof that my wife bought me. Rather than waste the Waterman, is it ok to use the piston to return the ink to the bottle, of will I risk contaminating the fresh ink?

    All the best,
    Myles

If it were me, I wouldn't dump it back in.

Thanks CW! I decided to discard the old ink. Is it normal for ink to flow from the square hole in the feed (in the center of the picture)? This is where the ink appeared to be flowing from when I used the piston converter to force the old ink out.

    Myles-

That's normal behavior when you're expelling the ink out. :)

Aurora Black is my current favorite black ink and the Noodler's comes in a very close second.

    CW,

Thanks again for the information. I'm liking this Noodler's ink a lot more than the Waterman.

I personally see nothing wrong with returning the ink to the bottle it came from. Some people do, I don't. I'm of the opinion that if you DO, it's not going to damage the ink that's in the bottle anyway.

I have had problems with nib creep with Noodler's. As a result I have moved back to Waterman. I miss the old Sheaffer inks as they just worked perfectly in every pen. I also have a soft spot for the old Parker Penman inks.

I'd also just put it back in the bottle.

I've mentioned a few times in other threads that I've had problems w/ Noodler's bullet-proof. I desperately wanted to like them... I like the company, the bottles, the artwork, and the colors, including Legal Lapiz. I always got a bit more creep than I was comfortable w/, had trouble w/ startups after not using a pen for a while, and trouble flushing ink, especially from vintage Parker Aeros. I stick w/ Waterman and Private Reserve now. Someone also mentioned using Pelikan blue-black instead of Legal Lapiz, and that it held up well to the water soaking test.

Like you I have wanted to like Noodler's but my experience with it just says it is not for me.

I'm using up my remaining stock of Noodler's as a mixing agent in small quantities.
