Any thin, 18mm X-long straps for an Antea KS?

    Hi,

I'm a proud new owner of a Stowa Antea KS and am looking for a source of straps. Having pretty big wrists, about 8" (I always seem to be on the last hole on any regular leather band), I'm looking for an XL.

Robert recently posted a great list of dealers with XL stock

    xtra long straps

but, as a watch newbe, I'm trying to figure out what style of straps tend to be "thin" so that they do not overpower the watch itself. Without side views, I'm afraid I'll end up with something for a 15mm thick watch that compely dawarfs my Antea KS. For instance, are shell cordovan straps thick or thin? Do I want an unpadded band? Is there any way to tell (or at least a quick way to figure out what to avoid) when looking at these? The band that comes stock is a Derby but I'm not sure how to determine how thick it is?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks again,

    -Scott

The Cordovan strap that you are looking at is padded at the lug end, which means it is a bit thicker at the lugs then tapers down to an unpadded thickness at the buckle end. Everyone has their own tastes, but I would say it is not a good match for your Stowa.

In general, you need to look for something that says unpadded or light padding. If it just says padded, that normally means an average padding thickness. And of course you have heavy padding. A problem with this system is that each manufacturers idea of padding thickness varies. So if you cannot tell from a picture you may want to ask how thick the band is.

For your Stowa, you might consider looking at lizard bands as these are many times unpadded and go well with a dress watch.
