As evidenced by your example, and that of a few others, the RIGHT kind of leather can be NATOfied with great effect.
Having said that, some crappy ones could give a novice the impression that ALL leather NATOs are atrocious.

I myself have a few, and find that Buffalo and Suede make for some of the nicest (= softest + resilient).

I remain amazed to this day that there are not more/better options available all over eBay.

I'd LOVE to get one in ostrich, like yours. Can ya PM me?

I've mentioned this in a couple of other threads, I wear mine a wee bit different, the head doesn't sit high and the ends are out the way. There is a bit on the bottom side of the wrist but it doesn't bother me. Looks sporty and a wee bit smart as well.

My ego was indeed bruised by your harsh words, and I thought of doing myself in, but was able to rescue myself just in time by taking advantage of the alternative adjectives that you kindly provided. :p

But seriously, why would you expect or want 'discreet' if you're sporting a strap that was originally/specifically designed for loud, peacocky, and ego-affirming activities that are intended to athletically crush your opponents, and net you the whole bevy all for yourself? ;)

James is the man behind Wotancraft, in Taiwan. Excellent stuff, and happy to customize as requested. He recently redid one of his buckles for me.
Here is the page that shows that pouch:

I found out that I love the feel of a leather nato. This is a Gunny straps version:

Buffalo leather. Brushed or polished hardware, thin and easy to secure.

German Flight jacket w/ kangaroo lining.

    Suede.

    Distressed.

    Shark embossed.

I just tried a crown and buckle leather NATO for use with my MKII at work and it blends in well with a suit.
