I kid you not - Simply wrap it around the end of the spring bar (It will slip in easily since that is exactly what it is meant to do)
wrap the other end around two fingers and gently pull the spring bar out.

Since it is soft it will never leave any marks on the lugs (it doesn't leave any on your teeth, right? )

The Bergeon 6825 Spring Bar Pliers are hard to beat (fine point forks). It does take a little practice to get the hang of them.
