Genuine leather without "genuine leather" on underside?

This question can probably be answered in one or two replies.

On a recent browse through The 'Bay, I noticed a strap I liked that the seller claimed was made by Cartier. The underside had Cartier printed into the band but there was no "genuine leather" mark like on the bands I'm accustomed to. I thought that all genuine leather bands required this imprint as proof of it's authenticity? Are there any notable watch manufacturers that use leather bands without this marking?

It's not unusual. Actually, most of my higher quality leather straps don't say "genuine leather" on them (they just have the manufacturer's name and, maybe, the width). It's most of my lower quality straps that say "genuine leather" -- like they're trying to convince me that it's a good strap. Go figure.

Crap, that's what I was afraid of. That probably means Ebay is loaded with fakes. So what are the rules of guaranteeing authenticity online? Look for references and buy the seller?

Oh, I just thought of another question. What if the underside of the band has no markings at all? Is it a toss up?

You may check the same model of cartier strap..and let see whether there is a genuine leather stamping at the back or not...i think they must have the same standard on stamping.

Oh, I just thought of another question. What if the underside of the band has no markings at all? Is it still a "who knows" kind of situation?

Liars, cheats, and thieves don't play by the rules. Get your straps from a reputable dealer; e.g: http://www.panatime.com/

Stan is in NY, and his straps are exactly as advertised, if not better. And if you are ever unsatisfied, he will make it right.

Most of the time these straps are made for the fake watches that are sold with that name Panerai Cartier Omega and so on, usually cheap shite.
