Nice work, Joe. Are you hand stitching those or machine stitched?

Looking stellar as usual. Makes my arbor press look like a play-doh machine.

Do you have a splitter? That's the main piece of equipment my setup is lacking (so pricey).

No I buy the hides in the weights I need and hand skive everything.
I hand stitched when I was starting out but with the custom order back log I have I would never be able to stay in business. I stitch with an Artisan 3200. Stitching is perfect in my opinion.

Wow: you machine stitch? A machine like that is just too much of an investment for this hobby. I get backlogged often too, but I just stop taking new requests. Good on you for taking the plunge: my favourite local supply shop has a 3200, and it really is a nice machine (i've watches them sew up to like an inch thick leather), but I just can't justify the expense and prefer to do it all by hand.

I would agree that the machine does some very nice stitching.

Yes the machine was an investment which paid for itself twice over in the first month I've owned it. I will hand stitch on occasion if I need to get a certain look. The current volume levels each month would never allow it. I do not stop taking on new clients but rather advise them that volume is high and the wait is "X" amount of time. This is not a hobby for me but rather a full time business ran parallel along side my career. I am creating a brand name which customers can rely on to deliver them quality products and solid designs. They have put their trust in me and in return I spare no expense when it comes to purchasing the best hides and tools for making a leather good that will bear my mark.
