    My new 'Novelty' Speedmaster strap

Question: When you own a 1969 pre-moon Speedmaster, circa the year of the first moon landing, what do you get for a fun strap that serves as a reminder of the heritage of your watch? Why, you get a replica NASA flight operations velcro strap of course! This is a short version so I don't have to do a multiple wrap (I'm a long way from having an 18" wrist).

Interesting. Have someone make that for you? Or did you find it somehwere?

Nice conversation piece, but it makes the iconic watch look more utilitarian.

It's a different look for when you feel like changing things up (or for those evenings when you're watching HBO's From the Earth to the Moon for the umpteenth time). I rotate my Speedmaster with six different straps in addition to the stock bracelet.

I've seen the replica NASA straps on eBay from between $20-$90 (made in China). There's also a guy in the USA who's making high quality replicas in very small volumes, and he puts them on eBay to sell (none of his are on eBay at the moment). You can read about his NASA strap making hobby at CollectSpace.

For those who want to try making their own, instructions are available on the 'master's' (Chuck Maddox) website, HERE.

And for anyone who wants to see the actual NASA blueprint drawings and spec list for the iconic Speedmaster strap (full length version), you can download the pdf plans from my file server HERE. They're hi-res versions of the images below.

in contrast, the speedy strap that Carl made for me has lasted over 5 years now, with regular use, still going strong.

These are instructions for a watch strap? My car was easier to build; no wonder the government can't do anything for less than $100,000+ a warranty for another $100,000.
