Strap question: Tag Carrera replacement?

Hey guys - kind of a newb when it comes to strap replacements but had a question I was hoping to get answered by the resident experts here.

I have a Tag Carrera (Calibre 7) twin time automatic (WV2116.BA0787), with original metal bracelet & deployment. I'd like to replace the bracelet with a tan leather strap (maybe something like this: Tan Sports perforated leather strap to fit TAG Heuer Carrera models with 19/18 mm straps [TH-CAR19-03-0311] - £32.95 : TAG Heuer- Watch Strap World, Quality Watch Straps).

I know I need to order a deployment clasp for this to work, but what if I need the strap shortened a bit? Is that even possible? Or should I be looking at different straps altogether (i.e., non deployment clasp styles).

A Tag-style deployant clasp puts the leftover watch band on the inside, next to your wrist. If your wrist is large enough to wear the watch in the first place, then there's plenty of space for the extra strap. You shouldn't need a shorter strap if the one you've linked to is the standard Tag length.

That said, if you're only willing to buy Tag-style straps (no holes, no keepers, start thick and get skinny) then you're really limiting your options. Why not just put a normal strap on there? Keep in mind as well that official Tag deployant clasps are very expensive, and third-party ones are all kind of "meh." I personally wouldn't bother looking for a Tag-style strap unless you already have a Tag-style deployant.
