Buying a new Rolex Deepsea - Advice Needed!

I want to purchase a brand new Rolex Deepsea.

I went to the local Rolex dealer (he has had an established business for 40+ years) and took a look at the watch. The owner of the store was very helpful and answered any questions I had.

When I asked for the price, he quoted $12,050 and said that this was what all authorized Rolex dealers would charge me for the watch.

He also said that while I might be able to find a new Deepsea for less at an private jeweler or high end watch dealer, it would not be 100% certain that it wasn't a fake, etc. He also stated that the watch was selling for 10k and change several months ago and that Rolex came out with an unexpected price increase around June of this year. Some of my web research seems to validate this statement.

This dealer says that Rolex guarantees the movement for two years and that his store throws on an additional two years on top of that for a total of 4 years warranty on the movement.

I need some advice from the experts here.

Does a buyer have any negotiating power when buying this watch from an authorized Rolex dealer or will I hear the same story from every dealer I visit?

What are your thoughts on this watch increasing in value over time, as I believe many, if not most Rolex's do.

Thanks in advance for any advice and perspective you might share with me. This is obviously a major purchase and I want to ensure I am making it armed with the best advice and information available!

You do usually have a bit of negotiating room at an AD.
Nothing ever always increases in value over time. 99% of Rolex's or watches in general don't increase in value.
Rolex price increases by the company are just done to adjust for inflation.
As soon as you buy any new watch it immediately decreases in terms of re-sale value.

I agree with what has been said...

You may be able to negotiate a bit the price with an AD but not that much.

You can try your luck buying it second hand to a trusty seller..

You rarely buy a watch as an investment, as said above, few Rolex will gain value, but at least they don't loose so much value.

Seeing a watch as a financial placement is against my love for watches...

Here's the answer to that question ...
    deepsea - WatchRecon

Remember that the prices shown are only asking prices .... If they sell it might be at lower than the asking price.
You can search ebay for completed auctions to see what they have actually sold for.

Is there a reason you need to buy new? Rolex is rarely discounted... Especially new models. Go on eBay and get yourself one for around 8-9k. Or, stop being silly and buy yourself the real sea dweller.... Best diver on earth

Re: Buying a new Rolex Deepsea - Advice Needed!

I agree with much of what has been said here, but consider the following.

My now wife bought me a DS almost two years ago, new from an AD. He discounted it just enough to offset the taxes. It cost $9300. Today, that same DS runs $12000+ and used ones run for $8-9k.

So, while you shouldn't generally buy watches for their resale value because it will keep you from enjoying the watch, I don't see this price increase as Rolex's last. Thus, I think new era Rolexes would really need to plummet in value to offset the super inflationary rise in rolex pricing. It's a hidden blessing provided you already HAVE a Rolex...and a curse it you don't.

As to the DS vs SD question, I have both, love both. But they are entirely different watches...one, even a tinier bit smaller than the old Sub, the other decidedly larger than the new one.

My advice to you is to ignore any suppositions that there is only one answer to this question, and get the one that speaks to you.

I am a saturation diver I own a deepsea. I have to say the old dweller is a better watch. Deepsea is to big, great on the wrist with short sleeves but that's it Rolex missed the boat on design in my opinion I'm either trading mine in or selling and going to Explorer using dweller for work. But please make no mistake deepsea is a great watch

Rolex is one of the hardest to fake. 3135 movement operates differently from many fake ETA rolex watch, the min hand goes goes clockwise , sames as the crown turning.

Buy a pre own from a reputable shop and ask them open up the back case to let you inspect the movement. If you are not convinced, get it to Rolex service center and ask them to authentic it for you with a small amount of fee. 100% sure you will get the real deal.

I am too in the process of getting a pre own Deep sea. Brand new is just too expensive to get one!

it might not work depending on your personality, but all i had to do was pull the old "thanks, i'll let you know" and the guy gave me 10% right on the spot.
