    Angry counterfeits and law enforcement

I was at the River Road street fair in Fair Lawn, NJ today. A vendor at the fair was selling cheap jewlery and had approximately a dozen "Rolex" watches.

As the fair was heavily patrolled by the Fair Lawn police, I walked up to a group of three officers who were standing around. I told the officers about the counterfeit watches. I was informed by one of the officers that if the vendor says they are fakes, it is not illegal to sell them.

I then tried to get the vendor's business card but she refused t give it to me. My intention was to notify Rolex in New York.

I then tracked down a Fair Lawn police sergeant/detecive. I explained the situation to him and he said he would look into it. I suspect he said that so I would go away.

I spent good, hard earned money on a quaility watch. I resent a street fair vendor selling crap off a folding table and passing it off as Rolex. I resent lazy, overpaid, indifferent, police officers who cannot be bothered to do anything.

Sounds like sour grapes towards the cops, not the vendor!

The vendor most likely would have a license issued by the city. This
gives him permission from the city to sell the suff. Solution, sue City
    Hall. :-D

    heh. that's funny.

just today i spoke with a police detective about his counterfeit breitling, which looks very original.

i guess that's how it works. the law doesn't regard counterfeit anything so illegal. lacostes, shoes, underwear, and quality swiss watches also...

I wouldn't think that a cop would do much about his...are you really that surprised? I wouldn't lose much sleep over the guy selling a few fakes--probably bad ones at that.

In the UK selling counterfeit watches (or anything else counterfeit) can result in up to 10 years in prison and a big fine AND its a crime which is not ignored.
