I am thinking selling my small collection to get a Rolex Sub.... never thought I'd do that.

I've only been collecting for a short while, about a year. I started with a few micro brand watches and a few Seiko's. For the longest time I wasn't even interested in a Submariner style watch let alone a full on sub homage. Then one day I tried on a 16610 in a local store that sells used watches and I was smitten. Since that day I now have 2 Sub homage watches on order and have been reading about and admiring the 16610 as well as the 116610. I'm really worried I won't be able to rest until I own one of these. It won't ruin my retirement to buy one but I just can't believe I'm even thinking about something that until recently seemed so out of the question.

    Is this how it starts?

    I keep flip flopping myself...

I'm happy with my collection and I'm saving up for the "unobtainable grail"...

    Rolex...or Omega... *sigh*

I went in to a local jeweler and they were overflowing with subs. I couldn't believe how many they had laying around...no Sub-C's and no DSSD's (which is why I originally walked in). For some reason, only recently the sub has worn off on me and I'm looking at a vintage DSSD or a new Omega...

One thing I have learned in my short time collecting is that it is very satisfying when you can wear a piece daily, and love it ALL the time. Surely the classic sub is the epitome of the watch you can wear all of the time. Good luck on your quest!

For me, the Sub is where it started and where it will end. Back around 1988 when I was a student working as a busboy, a waiter I worked with let me try on his Sub and I was smitten. But I never thought I could bring myself to spend that much on a watch. About 5 years ago, I started a "Sub fund" and put a little money away every payday/birthday/Christmas. If all goes well, I will get my 116610 some time next year.

    Do it!

A Sub and a cheap G-Shock will cover all your watch bases.

All I can say is, there are no 'sub'stitutes, so you might as well get one and get it out of your system. Also, if you buy well, you can always get your money back if end up needing cash or deciding that it's not for you. Good huntin'!

You're experiencing something normal. The final decision is inevitable. Looking forward to see a sub on your wrist soon.
My only warning is that this won't be the last Rolex once you start the ball rolling.

Getting the watch you truly desire, even if it means paying a higher premium up front, will inevitably save you money in the long run as you won't be spending it on substitutes which only leave you longing.

    Good luck.

So, is used a good option after having it checked out first or is new from AD the only way to go?
