New Datejust 1601... but I have a doubt...

Hi, i bought a DJ ref 1601, 70's (30xxxxxx serial), mint condiion, 1 year warranty from a jewelry here in Turin...
But looking an actual DJ with Sapphire glass, i noticed that this one is 1-2mm wider than mine.
So I measured my Datejust and...

Is it normal? it seems 34-35 mm...I thought that it's a Rolex date (ref 1500) case with a datejust dial... but with warranty and with the possibility to come back there...
Can i open the back to look on the back if it is a 1500 case or is it possible to put a 1601 back on a 1500 case?

    Other pics...

I hav the same thing...no prob, you can trust its a DJ 1601. Juz that mine is a black face. Its the size.

Mine is also from the 70's,but from the pics the previous owner changed the Jubillee bracelet to the new one which is thicker than the original old one.The old DJs from the 70's do not hav Sapphire glass,as it was not out yet.

Here's a pic of the new and old Jubillee bracelet.

I am a bit confused as to what you are asking. The DJ should be 36 mm, period. Are you asking if a 1500 can be cased to look like a 1601? If so, yes. They have the same movement, and it would be all too easy to stick a new dial in it. If you are not sure, get the bracelet off and verify the model number.

The measurement is taken at the widest point of the case, which is straight across and does not include the crown. They are all 36 MM, but the lugs are thicker on the new models. I still do not quite understand the issue.

Ok...I took it from the widest point w/o including the crown...its ONLY 35MM!!!! So I guess his is the EXACT SAME MODEL AS MINE? I recently brought it to change the bracelet and they told me it was a model 1601-4 so rest assured its a 1601 not a 1500.

    I removed the bracelet... and it's a 1600 with 30xxxxx serial. So from 70's.
    I think that 1601 are only 35mm...
