    PROHUNTER

Anyone own one of these 3rd party customized Rolexes? If so, what are your opinions?

I'm usually not a big fan of black PVD watches, but there are a couple of models that I think are kind of interesting. But there does not seem to be a lot of information about these watches out there. So if anyone can shed some light on this matter it will be hugely appreciated.

    Cheers.

They're extremely expensive. Also, Rolex won't work on them so you'd have to find a Rolex-certified independent. It voids the warranty as well.

I understand the coating quality is very good so if it's a look you like and you don't mind the money, then by all means go for one. You might find you can pick up a used watch and have the work done yourself more cheaply.

That's a very smart idea Jeanie. Thanks for your reply.

They don't do much for me. If I were going to buy a Rolex, I'd buy a standard one over a Prohunter... especially now knowing Rolex won't service them and the warranty is voided (thanks Jeannie!).

There are so many other brands that offer models with PVD or DLC coating, why destroy a Rolex?

Yea, the voiding on any kind of warranty is definitely a big red-flag. The Pro-Hunter website seems to suggest that they have an affliction with Rolex, but I guess that's just deliberately misleading marketing hoopla? That's a bummer. I was a big fan of the PVD Milgauss with green and orange. It's just so peculiarly pretty.

I like to see modified rolexes, I've done a few for myself. I enjoy seeing other ideas about what the watches can look like.
There are numerous other methods of servicing a rolex than the RSC's so I've never worried about it, never been a problem for me.
Besides Prohunter, there is Bamford and Project X.

I would agree it's not a huge problem, but I think people need to be aware of it up front as well as the warranty issue. I personally have no beef with people modding their watches, but I'm a big believer in making fully informed decisions.

I still think they're too expensive. If I had a hankering for one, then I'd go the pre-owned route for a less expensive watch that's out of warranty anyway and have the work done myself.

I really like the looks of them, but as others have said, I think you could get a very high-quality PVD job done (a la IWW, for example) on a regular Rolex for about $800. Very tempting, actually...

There's one watch with which I'd do this, and you hit the nail on the head: the green and orange Milgauss. It looks amazing.
