    Sapphire Caseback on a GMT-C

    Hi All,

I just recently purchased a Swiss sapphire caseback for my GMT-C and installed it over the weekend. The caseback on my GMT-C is pretty cool. I added the installation steps to my DIY page at http://www.minus4plus6.com/caseback.htm#116710 along with a comparison of the caseback made in Germany.

I know some feel that clear casebacks are sacrilege, but in my mind there is no other way to wonder at the micromechanics inside.

All spelling/photo errors are mine, so feel free to point them out.

    -Sheldon

(BTW, I also added some cool watch item reviews over Spring Break)

Now you've done it, Sheldon! You posted up a link to your site and I got sucked in and lost 30 minutes out of my morning.

Oh well, time well spent. Cool stuff. I must admit I would never do it, but I have no problem when other people do.

Bold, very bold. But since you know how to do it yourself it really does not matter. In fact it will keep your OEM case clean from scratches should you ever decide to flip it.
Better to regret something you have done, than something you haven't done...

Sheldon: I love my minathor, it sits in the office and easily handles all the watch duties there.

Great post, Sheldon. I've been thinking of doing this with my Daytona. So I gotta' ask; do you like the Thomas Preik caseback better or the Swiss Watch Customs one, and why?

The Swiss Watch Customs is better for my GMT-C as it fits flush with the recessed case and the finish is closer to the Rolex finish. The Preik caseback is slightly easier to install because a normal caseback pin tool works. I lean towards the Swiss Watch Customs as it is closer to the original caseback, and it has a bubbleback profile similar to the original steel caseback that the Preik version does not have.

    Thanks Sheldon. :thanks

I came to the same conclusion as I read your blog but I wanted to hear it from you. I'll be putting a SWC caseback on order tonight. Thanks again!
