Question Verifying rolex authenticity via serial number?

Hi everyone, Im thinking about purchasing a used rolex from the bay, and was wondering if I could somehow verify its authenticity via serial number? How could I go about doing this? Can I call rolex with the number directly....is there a website?????? All suggestions and criticism welcome.

    Thanks

Serial numbers can be faked also. Stay away from the bay and go to an
    AD.

I know of no way that the serial number will help except to verify the date and authenticity if it has paperwork.

There is no data base with all the numbers in it for Rolex to look it up for you.

The proof is in the watch, dial, case, movement, provenance if any, etc. =) maverick
