One day in about 1997, I was at the watch shop and saw a Tudor Chronograph similair to Daytona Panda and ordered it on the spot. When the watch arrived it was not the one in the catalog even though we used the model number. We called Tudor and they said there was a mistake in the catalog and that watch was not available. They had a Tudor Submariner in the case and I purchased that one instead. I really liked the Tudor however about 2 months into ownership both hands fell off inside the watch. I sent it in to Rolex in NY and they fixed it under warranty.

Then fast forward to the end of 1998, I moved to Sales and in my second year, I was awarded a Rolex Explorer II with a white face. I was so excited however it was still not a Submariner however I stopped talking about the sub for a bit.

Then in 2000 my wife suprised me with a Rolex Stainless Steel Submariner Date. I have been wearing that ever since. I gave the Tudor Sub to my Dad and he has been wearing it since 2000.

I sold the Explorer II in July 2006 and that was a big mistake.

That is my brief Rolex story. The SS Sub Date is still my favorite by FAR.

***Do you think 007 and Magnum PI had alot to do with all the Rolex craze for guys or is it just a guy thing?"
I see...sigh come to think of it...I still regret selling my Exp II a few months back

The Magnum PI and 007 thing didn't hurt my desire for a Rolex at a young age. I am sure there were other things as well.

My Grandfather gave me his Rolex Oyster Date a long time ago, but I foolishly sold it when I found out that it could not be repaired. I've always had a fascination with Rolex but never had the where-with-all to purchase one.

When I turned 40 last summer and my wife returned from her overseas deployment, she bought me a Rolex Sea Dweller. It will be the watch I pass to my new-born son when he turns 25 years old (in 24 years, 354 days!).

Same my grand dad gave me a Rolex too...i still have mine with me,though the amount that I spent on the watch really exceeds it's value but the sentimental value there is priceless.

Mind me ask you something, why 25?

    Re: Your Rolex story

My rolex story came to a happy conclusion today when I got a new GMT ll while in Florida on business. I went to Mayors in Maitland Florida and I must say I was thrilled with their customer service! I actually had no plans to buy the watch today but I walked by their store and saw that they had a huge selection of watches and when I asked about the GMT they happened to have the new model in the back. I was only able to negotiate MSRP but I saved the 7% tax and considering how new the watch was and the awesome atmosphere in the store I was happy to pay the money and get the watch right away. It feels amazing on my wrist and even the presentation box is impressive. I haven't stopped smiling since I got it :)

In retrospect, I was too young and dumb to appreciate my Grandfather's watch and only looked at the cost of the repair (some 20 years ago). Lesson learned.

As for 25, it's kind of a watermark for a man's coming of age in our family and we tend to mark it with a major gift.

Thanks very much and to you, also! Bouts of sleep are getting longer now (albeit only in relative vice absolute terms!).
