I m intrested how you guys when u guys first got ur hands on a Rolex and how your love for it started. As again..I hope the admin/mod can stick this.

Well I start with mine first! It all started 2 yrs ago...when I was 14. I got my hands on the Rolex that was collecting dust in my mum's drawer. The moment I put it on my hands..I loved it. Back then I didn't know much about Rolex, but I was amazed that a watch could last that long. Then I started doing researches on it...and one fine day I came across WatchUseek! Slowly..the love just got deeper and deeper...there is no way I can find a watch better than a Rolex

So it's your turn now! Tell us your story!

    Re: Your Rolex story

Back in 1993 I had a friend who had a Sea Dweller and I found myself really liking it. For the next nine years I tried to ignore the desire to buy a Rolex, telling myself that I didn't need a $4500 watch. Well, one day in 2003 I stopped by a dealer and looked at a Sub Date. I went home and told my wife about how I've always wanted a Rolex and she made me go back and buy it. I got in my car and went back to the dealer (I'm no idiot). The next year I gave her a mid-sized Yachtmaster for her birthday. Not to be outdone she promptly bought me a SS GMT Master II for my next birthday. That's my story.

    Re: Your Rolex story

In the early 70s, one of my task as a little kid was to clean my dad's Rolex every Friday. Very naturally, I learned to appreciate the beauty of the watch. When I finished Graduate School, I thought my dad will give me that watch as a gift but he did not. A few years later, I bought a GMT II for myself and on the same week my dad passed away. My mom gave me my dad's watch as heirloom gift. Since then, Rolex watches have a special place in my heart.

My Dad had a Rolex. He bequethed it to me, but it was stolen from his estate before I could get there. He lived overseas in a country with high crime problems.

I always wanted the Submariner model since seeing it in the Bond film Dr. No.

I will never let this one go:

    Re: Your Rolex story

I have been a watch nut since I was a kid, collecting quartz watches from Mickey D's. I then found Casio and Gshocks, always appreciating wrist watches. I fell in love with the Rolex Sub from early on and spent lots of time and money buying dive watches. About a year ago, I sold off most of my collection, some 50+ watches (all sub $300 range) and decided to buy a Rolex. My goal was a Submariner, until some research revealed the SD. I purchased one and kept it about 2 months, then realizing my need for the 14060M. The dial was clean and no date to confuse things, my ideal watch. So I sold the SD and purchased the Sub. The rest is waiting to be written.

    Here is the SD.

    Here is the keeper.

Now, my son(5 yrs old) loves watches too. I hope to pass on some of my collection to him down the road. He already has 4 or 5 quartz that he loves to wear. Gotta love it.

    Re: Your Rolex story

I bought my first and so far only Rolex in the Fall of 1968 as a reward for passing an important exam.
I picked it out of a catalog since not many places stocked chronographs of any kind.
This was the period when "Thin was In" in watch styles.

I considered an Omega Seamaster chrono also as it was about $20 cheaper but opted for the Rolex which was a good decision.
I got the Seamaster a few years ago. Here are some pics.

    Re: Your Rolex story

Mine is really very simple: I've been a watch nut ever since I can remember. As a kid, whenever I had the chance, I would always wear my dad's Rolex, out of my fascination with these mechanical marvels, and since I did not have a watch of my own yet.

In those times, watches were all still mechanical, and most people owned only 1 watch at a time, and watches then were not quite yet the commodity that they seem to be nowadays.

I finally got my first watch, a Citizen Auto, as a 13th birthday gift from my my parents. I still have this watch with me up to now, working and still keeping good time.

With the explosion of the digital / quartz / disposable / cheap watches, it was not until I was in my 20's when Rolex reawakened my passion for the mechanical wonders. Seeing page after page of Rolex advertisement for the ExpII and how it conquered Mt. Everest just bore a hole into my psyche which I could not shake. So I decided to get one, but back in the mid-90's, for purely greedy reason(s), every AD in Asia just did not have the EXP II in stock. I guess they were hoarding it what with rumors flying around that it will soon be discontinued. But I was determined to have my Rolex, so I got the next Rolex that smiled at me: the 16610 aka Sub Date.

Since then, my dad has passed on to me his 6694, and I purchased my latest Rolex: the 116520. Ironically, I've never looked back to purchasing the ExpII, the first Rolex that caught my eye.
