New guy, figures my first G-Shock turns out to be a fake.. Question..

I've been looking for a G-Shock for a while but I didn't really like the ones for sale at my local Walmart and such. After a lot of searching, I've purchased one (actually two, one is on the way, which I'm almost positive is fake as well). I have one in my hand right now that I bought locally but first I'll talk about the one I bought off ebay.

I bought one off of ebay for $45/shipped, I should have it this week... But after doing some research I'm positive it's fake, and I got screwed... Not sure what I'm going to do when it arrives, I guess if it looks decent I'll count my losses and keep it. Now, There was only about 5 minutes left on the auction when I seen it, I noticed it had a fair amount of bids so I looked at the sellers feedback, all seemed well so I bid... After winning the auction and sending a PayPal of $45, I realized I screwed up... Seems like this is a knock off of a Bape, I didn't even know what a Bape was, I just wanted a nice looking white G-Shock for the summer. Here's a link to the ad eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices I noticed after paying, that it's a fake..... and I could have gotten one for a lot less... Oh well...

So I also wanted a black one for work, I looked around locally and found one on Craigslist. But I did a bit of research before so I didn't get screwed over again.... I read to look at the back, make sure the G is there, casio and a model number... Basically I focused on this and didn't realize a bunch of obvious signs.... 1, The light button is where the adjust should be, there is no tide chart/moon function (I really wanted the tide chart, since I work on the water and recreation boat on the weekends). Also noticed the day of the week is two rather than three letters..... I paid $35 for it... so I'm $80 into fake g-shocks, I should have just bought one at a store. :(

I am going to try to return the white one if the ebay seller is a decent person, but the black one I'm stuck with...So I guess my main question is, are these still waterproof? The black one feels really great quality which is why I didn't second guess it. After looking at photos of a real g-7900 I realize I should have noticed it off the bat. But I guess I was so focused on the back looking real that I screwed myself!

Thanks, sorry my first post has to be so negative! Really looking forward to collecting a few REAL G-shocks but it will have to wait now that I'm $80 in the whole on two $10 watches...

Sorry for your loss. I don't think these fakes are waterproof at all. You could have it pressure-tested by a watchmaker of course but that would be more money down the drain. I'd simply move on and buy a real one and throw away the fake - tough luck but still the best you can do I guess. I also once bought a complete piece of junk watch on ebay - no fake but still not in any way worth the money I spent. It rests in some cardboardbox out of sight. You could at least take out the battery and use it for something else.

    cheers, Sedi

the seller has to return your money. they are selling illegal goods. they should also be reported. and jailed.
why doesn't ebay shut these folks down? this makes ebay look shady and it makes casio look horrible when a "g-shock" leaks.
we should report each and every fake we see. that seems to be the only thing that will help folks from getting ripped. plus,it's the right thing to do.
if ebay lets the listing stand, they are breaking the law.
you folks are experts and i have learned tons from lurking around here (and so have the fakers, i bet lol!!) and you can really help by flagging every shady auction you see.
i have heard people say that it doesn't matter- if it looks good and tells time there's no difference. that's fine as long as they know they are buying a fake.
btw- it does matter. real g-shocks are awesome. fakes make me sick.

if you're new to g-shocks, try to stay away from the 7900's. the 7900's and the 6900's are the most common fakes, but i think the 7900's can be tougher to determine which are fakes and real ones.
