    Finally got my Ambit ! +question :)

    What's up fellow watchers !!

2 days ago, I received my AMBIT ! charged it for 2-3 hours before even trying in on my wrist. Viewed from the top, it's ok, but I find it very thick ! I'll have to get used to it, it's my first (manly) watch :P (I have had a classic sporty timex when i was a kid and a cell phone ever since)

Only yesterday have I had the time to do a test run with the GPS fix every 1sec. (will post pics and screenshots later, at work now)

the path is pretty accurate with some minor deviations (I was running at a pretty fast pace 4:30 min/km or 7:12 min/mi). I know some of you have trouble with walking speed. Will have to check this out by myself.

The watch menus are easy to access. The hardest thing I had to do was to FIND my magnetic declination on the internet (not input it in the watch) :)

I also went swimming with it yesterday evening. I know, and I haven't pushed the button underwater. What I would do was press the lap/split button every 100m to track my distance. The watch was naturaly wet but not submerged when I pressed the button. Then, at the end, I dried the watch and went home. At home, I noticed all the buttons made a "wet succion" sound and let tiny drops of water out when pressed. Is it normal after a swimming session ? This morning, everything is fine, but I don't want to compromise the watch, I want to swim 1-2 times a week. Maybe I should use a cheaper watch for swimming ? or am I paranoid ? I think at 525 $ watch should be fine for swimming.

NOTE about GPS : I'm at work now and my desk is right beside a window. And I couldn't get a GPS fix. The sky is covered with clouds. Will retry to get a fix outside at lunch.

    Hi,
Don't know about the swimming part. What I do know is that my tracks are pretty well and accurate recorded.
GPS fix at 1st wasn't that good but after firmware update to 1.0.7 it got much better and quicker lock... Even indoors (not even close to windows) it gets a fix...
Surely there will be more replies and dito help Hopefully you'll nJoy your Ambit!

I would consider your actions no different to pushing the buttons if the Ambit is wet from rain etc. The problem with pushing buttons underwater is the increased water pressure outside the Ambit relative to the inside potentially forcing water around the seals.

Sigh!! If the Core has Stinger type buttons, why not on the Ambit is that an oversight or marketing decision?

I see you got a fix. Good. Ordinary cloud cover should not matter. Even in an ordinary wood frame house the new generation of GPS receivers can generally get a lock But office buildings and high tech windows (the coatings?) do often prevent GPS signal acquisition.

Even if it was a marketing decision, it was an error in my opinion.
I would respect the limitations of it not being a divers' watch (even a pseudo divers' like the Core) but if I am swimming (or even showering) within Suunto's specifications, I think button pressing, inadvertent or deliberate, should be catered for. My Terra allows button pressing and I feel very confident with it in the water.

Yeah, I can get a GPS fix easily inside my house (wood frame). But couldn't at work, even right next to the window (very thick glass and probably coated for protection) and steel frame construction.

Page 36 of the Core user manual "Caution: Do not press buttons under water". Yet the specs page for the Core state it has "underwater buttons".

The Elementum states in both the manual and specs that the buttons can be pressed underwater.

The Ambit states the the buttons should not be pressed whilst submerged. I take that to mean under water and pressure - not merely wet whilst in the shower or swimming on the surface.

Agree , even it is not a diver watch, as an explorer's watch it should be heavily overengineered in my opinion to the point of "redundancy"
They have all it takes to be the best high tech watch at the moment and hope they will offer the D9 buttons functionality in future. Despite all have been said, I just bought the Ambit yesterday.... the flesh is weak . Hope they will take active and direct feedback from Ambit users as well as from all Suunto lovers.
