Wink Longtime Suunto fan - soon to be "Core" owner

First off, I'd like to say "Hello, and :thanks everybody" for a great and very informative forum (and subforum)!

As the post title says, I have been a Suunto fan for many years, having previously owned a Vector.

Now, after 3 years of reading, researching and painfull waiting for Suunto to get it right with this model, the time has come for me to get the Core !

I plan on buying the new "Extreme Everest Edition" as soon as it hits the stores, but I do have one small problem that I need advice on...
I live in Europe, Croatia to be exact, and plan on buying the watch in New York this November. I read a few posts that stated there is somekind of a problem with international warranty from Suunto, and am pretty worried about it.

Is that true? Is the warranty void in EU if the watch is bought in the States, and vice versa?

I suggest that, for something as important is this, you should contact Suunto directly and ask them.

    Thank you.

So, I did some warranty research (which I should have done in the first place, instead of only focusing on the product) and this is what I found out: (source: www.suunto.com)

"...This Limited Warranty is only valid and enforceable in the country where you have purchased the Product provided that Suunto has intended the Product for sale in that country. If you, however, have purchased the Product in a member state of the European Union, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland or Turkey and Suunto originally intended the Product for sale in one of these countries this Limited Warranty is valid and enforceable in all of these countries. The warranty service may be limited due to the possible country specific elements in the Products.
In countries outside of European Union, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland or Turkey, subject to your agreement to pay a service fee and compensation for the possible shipment costs incurred by Suunto or a Suunto Authorized Service Centre, you can have warranty service also outside the country where you have purchased the Product. The possible used spare parts will in this case be provided free of charge."

Confused Re: Longtime Suunto fan - soon to be "Core" owner

I guess no Core-related thread can go without at least one question about reliability issues in the past but also, in the present?

It seems that every time I read a series of good reviews and feel gung ho about the Core, a bad one disheartens me and sends me off to research other brands and products which all, to be honest, have their own issues.

My plan B, if I decide not to buy the Core (0.1% probability), would be Highgear Altis. What do You think how do these watches compare?
