looking forward to the core black. newbie question

hello suunto users. i am looking now the suunto core all black and i have this newbie question. as i am a g-shock user. i have this pathfinder and really dissapointed with it. for the weather you need to remove at your wrist at least 10mins to get the perfect reading..

now for the suunto. do you need to do this?

Yes. For the temperature to be accurate the watch must be removed.

Most ABC's are like this. Some allow you to calibrate the temp to your arm, but its very tricky and depends on your activity level. (If you are running it will show "hotter"). I used to calibrate my Nike to my arm temperature but found it too erratic. I changed it back.

Generally I just subtract about 15 degrees and its pretty darn close.

IMHO Temp is the least useful feature of an ABC watch. knowing the temp is pretty useless info unless its rising or falling QUICKLY. At which point there would be other field observable indicators of atmospheric changes.

If temp is that big a deal to you, you could always get a little sipper pull thermometer or wear your watch on a pack strap or on your pack.

Im always WAY WAY more interested in baro trend and altimeter.

Thanks Jeff. Actually weather is not a big deal. As a microwave engr. I think it's a must to have a suunto watch. That alti/compass is really impressive and a good looking watch too!

One more thing. Any dealer recommendation where I can snatch the watch?

I have used Princeton Watches.... I think a few folks here have used Suunto Watches as well. (thats not SUUNTO the company, but a dealer... confusing I know).

There are a couple of other dealers that get used here... perhaps some other buyers may chime in.

Daves' Watches on eBay has the Core All-Black listed for $224.99 (Or Make Best Offer) with free-shipping. I recently bought one from him and paid $214.00. I couldn't be more pleased. It has the latest serial number, shipping was fast and included tracking number. The Core is a fantastic watch and has stood up to the rigorous activities I usually perform.

You're welcome. It's hard to beat at least $100.00 off what the other places are asking for it. When it arrives, enjoy it!

I think the thermometer feature is just an extra they added because it was already there. I mean, the watch is thermo-compensated, which suggests it must take into account temperature, and so much have a thermometer. I think they just made what was already there a 'feature'.

I still find it useful, like when I'm winter camping. I take the watch off and see how cold it gets by day-break. Things like that.
