Did anyone notice "Update Satellite Orbit Data" when they synched their Ambit?

Focus on what you want to happen, not what has happened.
No! Did it prompt you to update moveslink2?
Was this in the moveslink2 screen during the sync? I've never seen this. Just tried a sync again. Nothing like that here.

Jep - but no idea what data from the ambit are exactly synced!?
I have not seen that message, but it definitely happens at some intervals.
The Suunto servers are downloading to the watch a little file called "sgee" that the CSR SIRFIV chip uses to speed up GPS lock time.
It stands for 'Server Generated Extended Ephemeris" which is GPS-speak for the uber precise detailed update of predicted path of the GPS satellites.
(this is not anything unique to Suunto watches. CSR markets it as "IntantFix" for their SiRF GPS chips)
You can see the latest version of the file in your watch in the Service Info menu.
You can read more about it here:

Hmm, still never seen this. Has anyone on PC seen it, or is it just the Mac client that was updated?
It's 7.5.2012

Interesting PDF you posted. My file is 71k and actually has a .7d extension, making it look like 7 day data. Doesn't look like it's doing me any good. I wonder if it's only implemented for some parts of the world so far... or if it's an update bug.
Oddly, the sgee file is timestamped today on my PC though.

I'll guess the file applies to all the the satellites orbits, and is not region specific.
Until we document a sequence of updates, we can only guess at what Suunto has implemented at their end to push these updates.
Perhaps, if the file is 'valid' for 7 days, it will wait until May 14 to do an update on your watch. Let us know.
Suunto doesn't generate the file themselves, they must get it from somewhere (presumably CSR, but even they aren't the folks who first-hand compute the projected path/ephemeris data) - and I have no idea if Suunto has to pay a subscription fee or not. But that might be a reason they don't push a new sgee file to the watch at every synch. Or maybe it's just bandwidth or convenience.
And the sgee file on my PC is also showing a modified date of today. But Windows shows one Previous version timestamped to the first date/time I ever synched. May9. One day before the date shown in the watch - May10. So... I don't think the PC file date is useful - you need to read the version date/time on the watch.
