Newbie that pulled the trigger on a Suunto Core

Hello everyone! What a great forum and I thought I was the only watch nut on the planet?

After months off going back and forth on whether to buy the Casio PAW 2000t or a Suunto Core I finally decided upon the Suunto. The reason for this is that from what I have read is that the Suunto is more geared for the true outdoorsman who does climb mountains and hangs out with the goats on slim ledges. Well I am one of those that actually enjoy the company of mountain goats and therefore more suited towards the Core.

I have a few questions that I am sure will be answered here:
    1. I bought the black military Core SS013317010 is this a wise buy Core wise?
    2. Can I go swimming with this watch.
    3. Are they more reliable now than when they first hit the market? ( I decided to risk this)
    4. Replacing strap is it easy and where it the best place for replacement straps?
    5. How long can the battery last? If one does not play with the compass constantly?

My next purchase in the next 4-8 weeks will be the Suunto Elementum Terra.

    Cheers,

    1. I have the same watch and love the look but don't like the practicality of the black negative face. FOZr me it's difficult to see except in bright light. In low light you have to twist your arm to fine a light to reflect off of it. I bought the regular black and will windup using it a lot more I'm sure though I won't look as good.

    2. Yes it's waterproof to 30 meters which is snorkeling depth. When you change the battery make sure the gasket is sealed well.

    3. The problems were with the early watches and have been fixed. New watches are reporting no problems with hardware or software.

    4. I love the strap and you can buy them at a dealer I think for about 30 bucks.

    5. Battery should last a year and cost you anywhere from 2 to 4 dollars. Use a nickel to open the back. People have complained it rips the battery cover but I've had no problems using a nickel and placing the watch face down on cloth to prevent scratching.

Enjoy the watch. I think it's a great watch for anyone especially and outdoorsmen.

    1. I bought the black military Core SS013317010 is this a wise buy Core wise? Seems wise to me! Congrats!
    2. Can I go swimming with this watch. Yes, no worries with swimming and snorkeling.
    3. Are they more reliable now than when they first hit the market? ( I decided to risk this) Yes, the first generation had some issues, all seems to be fixed now.
    4. Replacing strap is it easy and where it the best place for replacement straps? Suuntowatches.com and its ok. Ive had easier, Ive had harder.
    5. How long can the battery last? If one does not play with the compass constantly? Compass, Backlight, Alarms and Alti all burn the battery. I think with average use 12-18 months on a battery seems to be what most folks are getting.

My next purchase in the next 4-8 weeks will be the Suunto Elementum Terra. Love my ventus... I wear it all the time!
