    Sensitivity of thermometer

I set up a "weather check" activity for when I am in the mountains. Simple activity which records location from GPS, temperature and barometric pressure (at the known altitude for the camp/hut). I can then have a record and simple trend for when I get home.

Tested it today and interested to see the temperature scale on Movescount.

Is the thermometer far more sensitive than the 1 degree stated in the spec sheet or is this Movescount just making things up?

    Re: Sesitivity of thermometer

Probably reads at less than 1 deg increments... they probably only claim 1 deg accuracy or worse though. Interesting graph.

I zoomed in on a gym workout from last night and see pretty much the same thing. The XML data file has samples like:

    <Temperature>300.95</Temperature>

    <Temperature>300.85</Temperature>

    <Temperature>300.75</Temperature>

So it looks like it is reporting in something like .1 deg Kelvin increments, if I had to guess.

High resolution does not automatically mean high accuracy. I.e. the accuracy can be +-1 degree even though it shows lots of decimals. (my crappy bathroom scale is a bad example of that, complete with SW to hide its measurment inaccuracies..)

Cool that you found it though, and it would be nice if someone could check the accuracy with some calibrated equipment..

My high school Science teacher drilled into us the difference between accuracy and precision/resolution. God Bless Herr Hennes and ALL tough high school science teachers!!!

    Sig Figs anyone? Suunto??
