Suunto Ambit - bezel material inquiry

Can anyone confirm if the bezel on both the black and silver Ambits are indeed aluminum?

Yes, it is aluminum. Suunto uses aluminum in all of their metal bezels unless they denote it as SS.

Fantastic! I wasn't sure as the bezels in pics looked like they were made of plastic.

Picking one up right after work.

    Thanks for the info.

Hmm my black bezel is already damaged, a (verry)small piece of paint is already blank. It is less strong than I expected.

Aluminum will dent if hit hard enough. Use a black sharpie marker to touch it up.

Well, I picked up a Ambit last Thursday and returned the following morning. I was in between strap holes - it was either to loose or tight. I also wasn't impressed with the fact that it remained stuck in "connect to movesconnect" mode from the get go. I was able to get it out of that mode by forcing a update which in turn caused the thermometer to show abnormal readings. Another annoyance was the inner bezel ring, 1) it looked poor cut/machined 2) there were handling marks on various portions. Perhaps I got one that wasn't QC'd properly! I'll stick with my Timex ironman GPS.

There are a few discrepancies about your statement. First,...Did you charge the watch fully before doing anything? How did you get the watch stuck in "connect to moves connect"?? Where you connected to Movescout? How did you "force" a update?

Watch was fully charged and went into "connect to moveslink" the moment power was supplied to the watch and it remained in that mode till I forced the update via the "moveslink" interface. The option is available within the desktop connect software. Once I forced a update, the watch finally went into its normal timekeeping mode. I then proceeded to congifure the watch via "movescount". Another member had the same "freeze" issue with his and he to had abnormal temp readings.

I know about the other defect...Was yours a silver Ambit?? I am thinking a batch of silver Ambit might have got a bad batch of faulty temp sensors....
