    Suunto Garmin Combo

Was looking at all the pros and cons of the Ambit. Still cannot get myself to pull the trigger because of the cons
Was thinking comboing a Vector or Core or any ABC with a Garmin Fortrex 401 or the new GPSMAP 62sc may be a far better and effective option than just getting the Ambit.

    What do you guys think?

    Re: Suunto Garmin Combo

Are there really that many cons?

Although price is a huge difference. I could go the route you suggested pretty easily. I still just dont use a GPS that much.

But I must admit, I found myself pricing Ambits this morning LOL.

I dont NEED one. But they do seem to be the cats meow.

Still, I could go the route you suggest really easily... I love my Core (and Vectors). But see, I already have those... If you were really wanting to kit up from the beginning, why not go with a "one device" solution?

Even though I just got the Ambit, I would purchase a Core + GPSmap 62s with a good 1:24,000 topo map installed. The Garmin will allow you to have more data, display the map with topo, and much more. Ambit does not (yet) tell you heading if you have engaged the GPS and if the GPS is engaged, you cannot (yet) use the onboard 3D compass.
Focus on what you want to happen, not what has happened.

Exactly, the opportunity cost of having the Garmin far exceed the functionality of the Ambit. If money is no object I will also have the Ambit tp play around too
The perception of the Ambit is more of an Athlete's watch rather than an Explorer's watch as advertised.
Apparently IMHO Suunto launch the Ambit into the market too soon. With the inherent programability and firmware updates, it makes more sense for specific and dedicated units to function for its intended target customers e.g.Ambit Explorer, Ambit Triathlon etc? This in my opinion is far better option than jack of all trades do it all thing. Less is more and more is less.
