    Suunto X-lander Military Altimeter questions

    Hey,

First off I want to introduce myself since I'm new to the forums. I used this forum to specifically select my Sunnto before I ordered it so thank you for all the reviews and information that everyone has provided.

I have few questions about the altimeter and how it functions. I understand the basic concepts and I know that I have to set a reference altitude quite frequently. My main issue is how I adjust RE altitude accurately. The dashes around the watch confuse me, I’m not exactly sure how it works in terms of feet and how my RE altitude directly impacts those dashes. Is there any way to tune in the RE altitude more specifically with adjusting the dashes on the circumference? I do not think this is possible though based on the manual etc. Any information on Altimeter functions and how to specifically read it would be a world of help! For instance my altimeter reads 1240ft with roughly nine dashes around the circumference so what would this exact altitude read as? I hope this isn’t a dumb question I just want to clarify a few things.

    Thanks in adavance!

    Ok, first... WELCOME! :)

As to the RE alt... I believe thats where the altimeter THINKS you are in terms of alt. Sometimes its close, sometimes not. So if you dont know a set alti, the RE should be CLOSE.

The dashes on the side represent the altitude in terms of the next full 1000 feet. So at say 500 feet your segmented display would show right around the 6:00 mark (half way to the next full 1000 feet). As you approach 1000 feet it would appear more "full" toward the 12:00 point... Since you are at 1240 its a quick graphical display of your elevation in regards to the closest 1000 feet.

IM not sure if that came out very well LOL. I just ate cake... may brain is numb from sugar exposure LOL.

    Welcome!
    Suunto... Replacing Luck!
